The Turnverein Pforzheim 1834 e. V. ( TVP for short , TVP 1834 or TV 34 Pforzheim ) is the oldest gymnastics club in Baden . The club is a multi-discipline club that offers different sports in several departments. With 900 members (as of 2020) it is one of the largest associations in the city of Pforzheim .

history

The Turnverein 1834 eV was founded on April 19, 1834 as the first gymnastics club in Baden in Pforzheim. After the Hamburg gymnastics club from 1816 , the Mainz gymnastics club from 1817 , the gymnastics club Riemann 1821 Eutin and the gymnastics club 1824 Offenbach, the TVP is the fifth oldest gymnastics club in Germany. First of all, they did gymnastics in winter in the house of the butcher's guild on Pforzheimer Waisenhausplatz. In 1843 the club was given a gymnasium near the Pforzheimer Martinsbau, on which a simple gymnasium was built. In 1849 the club was banned after the failed revolution of 1848/49 . The then Lord Mayor and co-founder of the TVP Carl Zerrenner made it possible to continue the sporting activities with his tacit consent. The gymnastics exercises were carried out in the garden of an inn.

In 1860 the association could be re-founded. The gymnastics equipment was initially set up in the fire station . In 1861 the city made a site available to the club, which is still known today as the gymnasium, where the first gymnasium was inaugurated in 1863. In 1893 the first women's department was founded so that women could also become members of the association. In 1903 the TVP had 1,400 members.

Since the gymnasium was no longer sufficient for sports activities, a sports area was created on the Bohrain in the west of Pforzheim. The First World War then brought considerable impairment, for example the gymnasium was confiscated. In 1923 a new playing field and a two-storey accommodation building were inaugurated on Bohrain.

At the end of the Second World War , the city was badly damaged in the air raid on Pforzheim on February 23, 1945 . The club life was brought back to life in 1946. In 1949 the TVP took part in gymnastics festivals again. In the summer of 1950, a 333-meter cinder track was inaugurated on the Bohrain for the TVP athletes. In 1975 it was decided to significantly expand the sports facility on Bohrain and in 1977 a tennis hall with a new office, grandstand and changing rooms was inaugurated. In order to be able to play competitive tennis, two clay courts were built at Bohrain in 1982. These were expanded by two more courts at the end of the 1980s, so that the TVP tennis department has had four courts since then.

Since the completion of the two beach volleyball fields on the Bohrain in 1999, not only volleyball but also beach volleyball has been played at TV Pforzheim. In 2007 a gym was inaugurated. It offers courses in yoga , spinal gymnastics, Ju-Jutsu , Pilates and Zumba. The TVP has changed from a gymnastics club to a modern multi-discipline club.

In the 2015/2016 season, the TVP's mixed volleyball team took part in the South German Championship (4th place) and the German Championship (5th place).

In 2016, the club became German champions in rugby with a 41:36 victory over the Heidelberg RK .

In the 2018/2019 season, the TVP's mixed volleyball team again took part in the South German Championship (4th place) and the German Championship (7th place).
