history

Edward Hill Ullrich, who translated the rugby union rules into German in 1891 , founded the rugby department of the Heidelberg rowing club. It was the first of its kind in Germany. At first, rowing was done in summer and rugby was played in winter. Until the middle of the twentieth century, many members practiced both sports. In 1960 the rugby department got its own place where it is today.

successes

The HRK won the German rugby championship fourteen times : 1927, 1928, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1986 and 2010 to 2015 as well as 2017 and 2018. The HRK won the eleventh German championship on June 21, 2014 with a 43:20 victory in Pforzheim against the TV Pforzheim 1834 . The twelfth German championship was achieved by the HRK on May 16, 2015 with a 53:27 (29: 6) in Heidelberg against the TV Pforzheim 1834. The HRK won the 13th title on June 26, 2017 with a 39:35 (15: 18). The last title to date was won by the Heidelberg rowing club on June 2, 2018 against RG Heidelberg with a sovereign 47:12 (26: 0) victory in Berlin. With a 27:15 win against Timisoara Saracens from Romania on April 21, 2018, the HRK qualified for the European Challenge Cup .

The HRK won the German Cup three times (1973, 1976 and 2011) and was the German 7-a-side rugby champion in 2011, 2013 and 2014 . The youth department has won a total of 28 titles since 1969. The women's team won the German 7-man championship in 2006 and from 2008 to 2013 and 2015, and the German 15-man championship six times in a row from 2010 to 2015 .

Exclusion from participation in the European Challenge Cup

Due to a conflict of interest, the management of the European Challenge Cup excluded the HRK from participation in June 2018. The decisive factor for this is the close relationship between HRK and its honorary member Hans-Peter Wild on the one hand and between Hans-Peter Wild and the traditional French club Stade Français in his possession on the other. Both clubs would be qualified to participate in the 2018/19 season. A large number of HRK players (also national players) are under contract in the company GFR - Gesellschaft zur Förder des Rugbysports mbH , founded by Hans-Peter Wild . These are financed by Wild, as are the players in the Stade Français.
