In the rugby Bundesliga , 16 teams first played in two regional relays (north / east and south / west), followed by play-offs in which the two highest-placed teams played for the German championship after the regular season. The regular season started on September 1, 2018 and ended on May 18, 2019, followed by the two semi-finals and the championship final on June 8, 2019.

Overview

Teams of the Rugby Bundesliga 2018/19

The rugby Bundesliga was played in 2018/19 with the new system, which contains eight teams in two seasons. During the regular season, each team played in the round trip against the seven other teams from the same group. No games were played against the teams from the other group. This was followed by the play-offs in which the winner of the north / east season played against the second from south / west and the winner of the south / west season against the second from north / east. The winners of these two semi-finals were then in the final of the German championship.

The last team in each season was automatically relegated to the 2nd rugby league. The two penultimate teams took part in the relegation against the losers of the semi-finals from the second Bundesliga.

The places of the two relegated teams from the 2017/18 season, SG Odin / Döhren and SC Neuenheim , were taken by FC St. Pauli and RC Luxemburg , both of which made direct promotion after a year in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the relegation, the two top division teams Berlin Grizzlies and RK Heusenstamm prevailed.
