After being fired for daydreaming at work, he visits his friend Professor Humbert to ask him for help assessing a supposedly old Coca-Cola bottle that he found on the construction site. The professor has received a letter from his friend Professor Lavrof inviting him to Peru to find the legendary Inca city of Paititi together with his half of a “stone key” . When Tad and Professor Humbert arrive at the airport, the professor has an accident and has to go to hospital after taking the wrong pills. Meanwhile, a member of the evil organization Odysseus Inc. spies on them and sends a photo to the other members who are active in the Sechura Desert. Tad takes the place of professor and travels with his dog Jeff from Chicago to Cusco , Peru . There he meets Freddy, a local street vendor, at the airport. Tad is kidnapped by men from Odysseus Inc. who threaten him and demand that the stone key be handed over, but Tad is rescued by Freddy and Sara, the daughter of Professor Lavrof. After connecting both halves of the key, the group will travel to Machu Picchu to meet Professor Lavrof. Odysseus Inc. with leader Kopponen tries again to steal the key, but Sara and Ted escape them. When they arrive at Machu Picchu, they discover that Professor Lavrof was kidnapped by Odysseus. After a few adventures, they find Lavrof and Max Mordon, a famous archaeologist and Sara's fiancé. After cracking the code on a wall map, Odysseus searches the desert with Lavrof and Mordon to find the treasure of the Incas. But Tad and Sara have the real map with which they go hunting in the jungle. Kopponen discovers them and finds the underground temple. After further adventures, they find out that Max is in league with Odysseus. When Kopponen and the rest of Odysseus' men perish in a room with traps, Max sneaks into the temple and tries to steal the Inca gold because he believes it will save eternal life. After fooling a mummy and a golem, Max destroys the glass that protects the Inca gold, making him immortal, but as a mummy. Max is taken to the temple dungeon by the mummies. The head mummy releases Tad, Sara and the professor on the condition that they don't tell anyone about the Inca city.
