Takayuki Matsumiya

Takayuki Matsumiya ( Japanese 松 宮 隆 行 Matsumiya Takayuki ; born February 21, 1980 in Akita ) is a Japanese long-distance runner . From 2005 to 2009 he held the world record in the 30 km road race .

Life

In 2000 he won the Ōme marathon over 30 km in 1:31:18 h. Over the same distance he set a world record of 1:28:00 h on February 27, 2005 in Kumamoto, which was undercut on September 20, 2009 by the intermediate times of Haile Gebrselassie and Samuel Kiplimo Kosgei over 30 km at the Berlin Marathon . Shortly afterwards he was (as in 2003) second in the Japanese company championships in the half marathon .

At the 2005 World Half Marathon Championships he was eleventh and won the bronze medal with the Japanese team. In Chiba he was part of a marathon relay that set the Asian record that is still valid today with a time of 1:58:58 h on November 23, 2005 .

In 2006 he won the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon and finished second in the Lake Biwa Marathon in 2:10:20 h. In 2007 he improved himself to 2:10:03 h as second in the Rotterdam Marathon despite the extreme heat. At the World Athletics Championships in 2007 in Osaka, he was eliminated in the semi-finals over 5000 m .

Despite a Japanese record that he set over this distance the next year, he suffered the same fate in the 2008 Olympics semifinals , where he lost his left shoe. Over 10,000 m , he finished 31st in Beijing.

In 2010 he was third in the Fukuoka Marathon , in 2012 seventh in the Tokyo Marathon .

Matsumiya is 1.63 m tall and weighs 49 kg. He starts for the team at Konica Minolta . From 2006 to 2008 he was the Japanese champion over 5000 and 10,000 m. His twin brother Yūkō Matsumiya is also successful as a long-distance runner.
