Garagoumsa is a rural municipality in the department Takeita in Niger .

Garagoumsa is located in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Ourafane in the north, Tirmini in the east, Ichirnawa in the southeast, Kantché in the south, Korgom in the southwest and Maïjirgui in the west. The municipality is divided into 44 administrative villages, two traditional villages, 28 hamlets and a camp. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Takeita (also: Takeïta, Takieta, Takiéta).

The 6,720 hectare Forêt classée de Takeita and the 1,840 hectare Forêt classée de Kongome are two protected forest areas in the municipality of Garagoumsa. The first was placed under protection in 1950, the second in 1952.

history

In the 1960s, the markets in the villages of Takeita and Koundoumaoua were important transshipment points for peanuts , Niger's most important export at the time. In 1988, an administrative post ( poste administratif ) was set up in Takeita, a lower administrative unit headed by a chef de poste administratif . The rural municipality of Garagoumsa emerged from the Garagoumsa canton in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. The administrative post of Takeita was removed from the Mirriah department in 2011 and elevated to the Takeita department.

At the 2001 census, Garagoumsa had 45,828 inhabitants. For 2010, 62,220 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Tuareg sub-groups Mikitan and Tafazarak, who mainly practice agropastoralism , live in Garagoumsa .

Economy and Infrastructure

Garagoumsa at National Road 1 , the place with the regional capital Zinder connects, and at the border with Nigeria leading National Straße 10 . The Goumda Tambari Dam in the municipality was built in 2008.
