Tama drums
Tama Drums is a Japanese brand of drum kits and their accessories from Hoshino Gakki .
history
The products have been sold under the TAMA brand name since 1974, after drum sets had been produced under the Star name since 1965 . This name can be found in the series names since the renaming. The drums sold under the brand name Star were mainly optical replicas of the then common US makes, such as Ludwig.
The so-called "banana holder" (its shape resembles a banana) was still used for tom holders, under the name Star. The successor model from Ludwig was then also used under the name Tama, with a now retractable tube, with the ribbed, adjustable spikes for the toms retained.
The "Swingstar" and the "Rockstar" were, behind the competitor Pearl Export, the most popular series in the affordable range.
The pool manufacturer Meinl is responsible for sales in Germany .
Tama Drums later belonged to the pioneers in the development of drums and their accessories. In the area of the drum hardware " Tama Titan " series, TAMA also plays a major role with the " Iron Cobra " series. The previously known Camco chain foot machine comes from the former drum manufacturer “Camco”, which was also manufactured by “DW”. The tripod system of the cymbal stands and stools was revolutionized by TAMA. Several different layers of wood were used in the manufacture of kettles, which resulted in a significantly better sound quality. TAMA was also the first brand to make signature snare drums . These are snare drums made by drummers according to the specifications. An example of this is the snare drum by Lars Ulrich from Metallica , which was also used on the St. Anger album. Not to be confused with the “Signature” series, which Sonor had previously brought onto the market in the luxury class. This was identified by the signature of the company owner, Horst Link, on the badge.

Production schedule
In the past, this brand of drum kits were made to match a particular musical style. For example, the TAMA Superstar was designed for rock and heavy metal styles . This was achieved through the use of strongly rounded boiler edges, which resulted in a warm and long-lasting sound, but made tuning the drums very difficult. Around 1990 the company began producing drums that could be used in a wide variety of musical styles.
