successes
Tan Zongliang took part in the Olympic Games five times . 1996 in Atlanta he qualified with 581 points in eighth place in the competition with the air pistol for the final. In this he scored 101.0 points, the highest score in the final round, and improved to sixth place. Four years later he missed the final in Sydney with the air pistol in eleventh place with 578 points by three points. Also in 2004 in Athens he just failed to qualify with the air pistol, with 582 points he finished ninth. With the free pistol he was tenth with 558 points. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , he was only one point short of reaching the final with the air pistol, so he finished the competition with 580 points in eleventh place. The competition with the free pistol went far better when he finished first in qualification with 565 points. In the final he fell two places back to third place with 94.5 points, but then benefited from the fact that the originally second-placed Kim Jong-su was disqualified for doping. So he received the silver medal behind Jin Jong-oh and ahead of Vladimir Issakov . In 2012 he only competed again with the air pistol in London , which he finished in twelfth place with 581 points.
In Lahti in 2002 and in Zagreb in 2006 , Tan became world champion with the free pistol . In addition, he secured silver with the air pistol team in 2002 and won the title in 2006 both with it and in the team competition with the free pistol. On the continental level, Tan was also very successful: in 2000 in Pulau Langkawi and also in 2007 in Kuwait City , he was Asian champion in the individual with the air pistol. At the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1998 he won silver medals in singles with the air pistol and in the team competition with the free pistol, while he won the title with the air pistol team. In Busan in 2002 , he repeated this success with the air pistol team and also won gold in both individual and team competitions with the free pistol. He finished the individual competition with the free pistol in second place. In 2006 in Doha he defended his three title wins from 2002 in the two air pistol competitions and in the team competition with the free pistol. Tan received his last two medals at the Asian Games in 2010 in Guangzhou when he finished second in the individual and with the team in the air pistol discipline.
