Tara Claire Palmer-Tomkinson (born December 23, 1971 in Hampshire , England - † February 8, 2017 in London ) also known as T PT , was a British It girl , television presenter and fashion model.

Life

Palmer-Tomkinson was the third and youngest child of Charles and Patricia (nee Dawson) Palmer-Tomkinson. As a child she lived on the family estate in Dummer near Basingstoke in Hampshire . Her father took part in the 1964 Olympic Games as an alpine skier . Palmer-Tomkinson went to the Sherborne School for Girls in Dorset . After graduating from school, she began a course in dance and theater at the London Studio Center. Then she worked for a short time for a Rothschild Group bank in London and began working as a fashion model.

Work as a writer

In the second half of the 1990s, a weekly column appeared in The Sunday Times under her name. The column was ghostwritten by Wendy Holden and based on what Palmer-Tomkinson said over the phone the week before.

In September 2007 her book The Naughty Girl's Guide to Life was published by Sphere , which she had written with Sharon Marshall. It was reprinted in The Sunday Times Style Magazine .

In October 2010, Pan Books published her first novel Inheritance . But there was also a ghostwriter behind this book.

TV appearances and other activities

In 2002, Palmer-Tomkinson was a participant in I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and reached second place there. In November 2005, Palmer-Tomkinson reported for the third time as a background reporter on the series I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! .

Palmer-Tomkinson played the piano and performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall with the National Symphony Orchestra , the Royal Albert Hall and the London Coliseum at a Leonard Bernstein show. She hosted the Classic FM Gramophone Awards 2005. She wrote the pop song 5 Seconds which she performed in Loose Women .

From 2013 to 2014 she was the patron of the Scottish charity Speur Ghlan, which cares for young children with autism or developmental disabilities.

Private

Palmer-Tomkinson's family has close ties to the British Royal Family . Her father was the ski instructor of Charles, Prince of Wales and her family took him on regular skiing holidays. She was a guest at his wedding to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and at the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton .

In 2004 Paul Harvey's painting by Palmer-Tomkinson was exhibited on The Stuckists Punk Victorian Show at Walker Art Gallery for the Liverpool Biennial .

In 1999, her parents paid her a month's stay in a clinic in Arizona where she was being treated for cocaine addiction . In 2006, her nasal septum was destroyed after prolonged cocaine abuse. She had this restored through an operation.

On February 8, 2017, Palmer-Tomkinson was found dead in her apartment. As her sister announced after the coroner's report , she died of peritonitis as a result of a ruptured ulcer .
