history

According to a local legend, Tatars were settled in the 13th century . The place was more likely founded by Żegota z Benkowicz after 1333. Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Auschwitz , which existed from 1315 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 the duchy was under feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia . Since 1445 it belonged to the Duchy of Zator , which was sold to Poland in 1494.

In the 16th century the village belonged to the Arian Jan Przypkowski, who in 1572 relieved the inhabitants of forced labor. From the 17th century Tarnawa Dolna belonged to the Sucha (Beskidzka) estate of the Komorowski family.

During the first partition of Poland , Tarnawa Dolna came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

After belonging to the parish in Mucharz , a separate parish was founded in 1840.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Tarnawa Dolna came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Bielitz in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ).

From 1975 to 1998 Tarnawa Dolna was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
