The Tartasse is a river in France that runs in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises in the municipality of Ars-les-Favets , near the hamlet of Montmazot , from the lake of the same name Étang de Montmazot , generally drains in a westerly direction through the Combraille landscape and flows after 21 kilometers across from Chambonchard , but in the municipality of La Petite-Marche , as a right tributary into the Cher . On its way, the Tartasse crosses the Puy-de-Dôme and Allier departments and, at its confluence, meets the neighboring Creuse department in the Limousin region .
