Teano genus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Classical Archeology, the Teano genus is a sub-Italian genus of vases from the last quarter of the 4th and first half of the 3rd century BC. Chr. Designated.

The Teano genus was named after the main place where pottery was found, Teanum Sidicinum in northern Campania . The place was probably also the production center. The main forms were so-called foot plates with a high handle, flat bowls on a small base ring, skyphoi , gutti , oinochoes , kernoi and plastic vessels in the shape of birds. Other vessels, such as calyx craters, are extremely rare. The vases are covered exclusively with black gloss . The decoration is made with stamp patterns, scratches in the form of lines or drops and with wavy lines or ivy tendrils in mostly white and yellow colors. On some vases there were Oscar inscriptions with the names of the producers, the Berii brothers . The company was established between 310 and 280 BC. Operated.
