Defending the overall World Cup were in the men of the Swiss Nicolas Michel , the and in the women's German Johanna Holzmann . However, both did not compete in the World Cup in the 2019 season and were unable to defend their titles.
The overall men's World Cup was won for the first time by the Norwegian Trym Nygaard Løken ahead of the two Swiss Stefan Matter and Bastien Dayer . The individual ranking of the Classic discipline was decided by Bastien Dayer, the Sprint World Cup was won by Stefan Matter. The title in the parallel sprint went to Frenchman Philippe Lau .
Among the women, the dominator of previous years, the Swiss Amélie Wenger-Reymond , who did not start the 2017/18 World Cup season due to pregnancy , returned and won the overall World Cup ahead of previous year's winner Johanna Holzmann and the British Jasmin Taylor . Wenger-Reymond also won all disciplines.
In the course of the season, four different men achieved a World Cup victory. Overall World Cup winner Trym Nygaard Løken and the discipline winners Stefan Matter, Bastien Dayer and Philippe Lau each recorded three victories. For the women there were also four different World Cup winners in all of the competitions. Amélie Wenger-Reymond dominated with 8 wins. It was followed by the French Argeline Tan-Bouquet with two victories and Jasmin Taylor and Johanna Holzmann with one victory each.
Switzerland won the national ranking for men and women as well as in the combined overall ranking of both genders.

Compared to the 2017/18 season , the events in Hintertux , Rjukan (as the venue for the World Cup), Warren and Woodstock were no longer part of the World Cup this year. To do this, they stopped in La Thuile and Pra-Loup in 2019 . The planned World Cup in Villars sur Ollon did not take place.
