The Tempel-Folkfestival is an annual music festival in Duisburg-Rheinhausen that focuses on the field of folk music .

history

Even before the first festival, individual concerts were held in the temple, a youth center located in a residential area in Duisburg-Rheinhausen. After employees of the youth center had made the decision to organize a larger festival from individual concerts as part of the community festival, the first folk festival took place on June 5, 1993 to expand the cultural offerings of the district.

The success in the first year (at least 1,500 visitors) encouraged the organizers to continue organizing the festival in the following years, with an average of 5,000–6,000 visitors every year. For the ten-year existence, 2002 a. a. Fiddler's Green on. Over the years, the range of music has also developed: The Ohrbooten (2008), Fanfarlo (2010), Wallis Bird (2008 & 2011), Mighty Oaks (2013) and many other artists and bands from various music and styles.

A tradition that has been retained from the days of the pure folk festival is the sale of Irish beers, Guinness, Kilkenny and Stowford cider.

Initially, the festival took place on a small stage that was set up on the meadow in front of the youth center. Over the years the festival has grown in size and professionalism, and from 2010 another stage was added, the so-called "Mühlenbühne", which replaced the small singer & songwriter stage in the temple itself. The basic idea of the Folkfest is that it is a "Free & Outside" festival and that it is financed through the sale of food and drinks and that it is carried out mainly by volunteers. In addition to the catering stands, a raffle, a supervised children's program and, since 2010, a children's theater, with which the festival is opened, are also offered.

For the 20th anniversary of the festival, the "Folk Festival" concert series was started in 2013. Artists like Wallis Bird and Mobilée were already there .
