The Great Bertholinis is a German band from Nuremberg . The style of the " Indie - Brass - Ensemble " is defined as "a mix of indie rock and Eastern European Blasmusik- polka with a penchant for melancholy described". With timpani , trumpets , banjo and balalaika, it reconciles the Hungarian “ euphoric melancholy and folkloric playfulness” with “modern independent music with a western character”. The band itself writes: “Between polka and bluegrass , between revue and spiritual, cosmopolitan folklore blossoms and demands tradition .” The songwriters are Özgür Kantar and Steffen Zimmermann. According to their own account, the band comes from an old artist dynasty from the Hungarian village "Átánly". However, in the further course of the band's biography it is ironically "Whether this and how much of this story is true [...] does not matter in the end [...]".
Guest musicians on the recordings for debut - album Objects Travel in More Than One Direction were Jochen Hesch on acoustic guitar and Leif Summer Meyer ( The Broken Beats ) on piano .
