Tempyō
Tempyō ( Japanese 天平 , also Tembyō or Tenhei) is a Japanese era ( Nengō ) from September 729 to May 749 according to the Gregorian calendar . The previous era name is Jinki , the following era is called Tempyō-Kampō . The era falls during the reign of the Emperor ( Tennō ) Shōmu .
The first day of the Tempyō era corresponds to September 6, 757, the last day was July 22, 765. The Tempyō era lasted 21 years or 7184 days.
Events
- 733 Agata no Inukai no Michiyo , the mother of Empress Kōmyō , dies
- 735 Death of the two princes Niitabe and Toneri
- 737 Fujiwara no Fusasaki dies of smallpox
- 740 Fujiwara no Hirotsugu rebellion ( 藤原 広 嗣 の 乱 Fujiwara no Hirotsugu no ran ). Ōno no Azumabito is sent with 17,000 soldiers to Mutsu province to end the rebellion. Fujiwara no Hirotsugu is defeated and beheaded in Hizen Province .
- 741 Establishment of Provincial Temples ( Kokubun-ji )
- 744 Naniwa-kyō (today Osaka) becomes the capital
- 745 Heijō-kyō becomes capital again
