On July 10, 1950, Struycken, who had been a member of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP) since 1945, was appointed Minister of Justice ( Minister van Justitie ) by Prime Minister Willem Drees and held this position in the Drees / Van Schaik cabinet until March 15, 1951.
