Thallium (I) bromide is a chemical compound from the group of thallium compounds and bromides .

Occurrence

Thallium (I) bromide occurs naturally as a mixed form with thallium (I) chloride in the form of the very rare mineral lafossaite .

Extraction and presentation

Thallium (I) bromide can be obtained by reacting thallium (I) sulfate or thallium (I) nitrate with pure hydrogen bromide .

properties

Thallium (I) bromide is a pale greenish-yellow solid that is practically insoluble in water. It is freshly made pale greenish-yellow, but becomes dark in the light. It has a crystal structure of the cesium chloride type (a = 397 pm).

use

Thallium (I) bromide is used as mixed crystal together with thallium (I) iodide as thallium bromide iodide in the attenuated total reflection spectroscopy .
