Thallium (I) chloride is a chemical compound from the group of thallium compounds and chlorides .
Occurrence
Thallium (I) chloride occurs naturally as a mixed form with thallium (I) bromide in the form of the very rare mineral lafossaite .
Extraction and presentation
Thallium (I) chloride can be obtained by reacting thallium (I) sulfate or thallium (I) nitrate with hydrochloric acid .
properties
Thallium (I) chloride is a white, non-flammable solid that is sparingly soluble in water. Freshly made, it is completely colorless, but turns purple when exposed to light. It has a crystal structure of the cesium chloride type (a = 383.4 pm).
use
Thallium (I) chloride is used to produce two-nucleus complex compounds (Tl-cyclodiphosphazanes), which have interesting metal-metal interactions. The chloride of the Tl-201 can be used for myocardial scintigraphy .
