After Penny's and Rajesh's one-night stand (see season 4, episode 24), Rajesh is in seventh heaven, while Leonard and Howard (who's jealous because he never got to end up with Penny) are resentful. Leonard tells of Rajesh's lewd poems about Bernadette, whereupon not only Howard but also Bernadette is angry with Rajesh. Penny, in turn, is ashamed and temporarily moves in with Amy in order not to have to meet Rajesh and Leonard. But since Amy divulges this on Facebook, Rajesh finds her there and explains to her relief that Penny did not have "real sex" because of his premature ejaculation. They both decide to stay friends. In the meantime, Sheldon is meticulously preparing himself and his friends for a paintball tournament, but the others just don't feel like teamwork and finally don't want to continue in the middle. Thereupon Sheldon "sacrifices" himself out of frustration and thus causes the three others to forget their quarrel and yet join forces to avenge Sheldon's "death". They win the paintball tournament and celebrate the victory together when they learn from Penny that she has decided to move back to Nebraska because she no longer sees a future as an actress in Los Angeles. A call from her agent informing her that she has been given a role in a hemorrhoid commercial causes an immediate change of heart, and Penny decides to stay.

Leonard and Priya are long-distance relationships and often talk to each other on Skype . Sheldon is annoyed by this and flees to Penny, whose new chair he finds extremely comfortable. However, when he learns that she has found the armchair on the street, he is beside himself and believes that he is infested with "armchair lice". His attempts to convince her of the health hazard of her chair fall on deaf ears, and so he persuades Amy to give it a try. Penny sees through them and Amy takes a seat on the armchair herself as a gesture of apology. But it turns out that there is actually an animal in the chair that bites Amy's bottom. The armchair ends up on the street again, where Howard and Rajesh find it at the end of the episode and take it with them so that Rajesh no longer has to sit on the floor with Leonard and Sheldon in the future. Meanwhile, Howard is trying to help Leonard make his long-distance relationship more exciting and has developed a device that allows Leonard to kiss Priya over the Internet. In contrast to Rajesh, Leonard does not like the device. He prefers to try to make the next Skype session more interesting in his own way. However, this fails because of his clumsiness in such matters and ultimately also because of technical problems. Equipped with cheat sheets, he thinks he is well prepared for the next attempt and puts Priya in an embarrassing situation, because this time Priya's parents sit next to their daughter and overhear everything.

After a lecture on the advantages of H0-scale model railways in a model train shop , Sheldon, who actually swears by nominal-size 0 railways, bought a starter package and was increasingly enthusiastic about the smaller scale as a result. He devotes his free time to his new hobby and then even purchases an even smaller size N course . Amy, who needs a companion because she is invited to a wedding, has little use for what she sees as the childish behavior of her boyfriend and asks Leonard to accompany her. He feels rather uncomfortable in Amy's presence, but agrees and ultimately both actually spend a nice evening. In parting, he kisses Amy on the cheek, who is irritated because she suspects Leonard may have fallen in love with her. Sheldon is also not very enthusiastic about the evening together and reacts unusually jealous. Howard, who still dreams of living under one roof with Bernadette and his mother, persuades his fiancée to move in with him for a few days on a trial basis. At first, Bernadette strangers to Howard's quirky mother, but she quickly gets used to being around the Wolowitz house and finally begins to behave like Mrs. Wolowitz.

While Howard plans his wedding to Bernadette and Leonard is still in a long-distance relationship with Priya, Rajesh painfully realizes that he is the only one who currently has no girlfriend. He sinks into self-pity and so Penny, Bernadette and Amy decide to introduce him to the deaf Emily. Howard has to translate because only he can speak sign language. The two actually come together as Rajesh's usual communication problem with women doesn't matter this time. However, it turns out that Emily is only after the money of the extremely wealthy Koothrappali family and only stays with Rajesh because he gives her expensive gifts. Penny sees through this, but Rajesh does not believe her and insinuates that she is jealous. So she notifies Rajesh's parents, who give him the choice between his non-Indian girlfriend and her money. He decides in good faith for love, but then Emily breaks up and the injured Rajesh cries out at Penny. Sheldon, meanwhile, tries to make trivial decisions with the help of dice in order to be able to devote his mind to more important things. However, this makes his everyday life much more difficult.

Howard is delighted that NASA has chosen him to accompany the telescope he designed on the International Space Station and thus realize his dream of flying into space. Bernadette is very unhappy about this because she is very worried about him. So she tries to talk him out of it. She even goes so far as to tell his mother about his plan behind Howard's back and to get her to her side. This breach of trust almost breaks the relationship between the two. Meanwhile, the friendship between Leonard and Sheldon threatens to break because Leonard wants to go to a party by Wil Wheaton , one of Sheldon's archenemies. However, when it turns out that Brent Spiner , who is admired by Sheldon, is also attending the party, Sheldon decides to go to the party to meet him. Wil Wheaton wants to be reconciled with Sheldon and gives him his last Wesley Crusher action figure in its original packaging, which he also signed. When Brent Spiner tears open the packaging without thinking, Sheldon places him on Wheaton's place on his archenemy list. In the end, Bernadette agrees to Howard's space adventure and the two make up again. However, his mother continues to oppose Howard flying into space.

Leonard and Sheldon have a visit from Sheldon's mother, who is warmly welcomed by all members of the Circle of Friends. Leonard helps her, for example, not to offend her at every opportunity with her Christian fundamentalist nature. Sheldon has very own plans for how he wants to spend time with his mother - for example, she should cook him his favorite meal and accompany him to a lecture at the university. To his chagrin, she has little left for his ideas and prefers to eat sushi instead of cooking herself. Sheldon is upset about his friends, who he thinks are spoiling his mother's visit with their activities, and is annoyed that she no longer wants to mother him and instead wants to treat him like a grown man. He therefore refuses to accompany her and the others and prefers to visit Amy, while Sheldon's mother visits the churches of Hollywood with Leonard, Penny, Howard and Rajesh. Amy tries to shed light on Sheldon's situation from an evolutionary perspective, which Sheldon does not particularly develop. Frustrated and full of Weltschmerz he makes his way home and on the way gets caught in a rain shower, through which he catches a cold and finally gets a helping of motherly love.

Leonard, Howard and Rajesh play such a nasty Halloween prank on Sheldon that he pees himself and passes out. Then he tries again and again throughout the episode to get his friends back for this prank, which he always fails. So he puts a snake in Rajesh's desk drawer, which he thinks is totally cute, tries to put a prank on Leonard in the mailbox, with Leonard turning the tables, and shocks Howard with a stun gun, whereupon he plays a heart attack for him. Meanwhile, Leonard meets a woman named Alice in the comic book store, who is immediately interested in him and makes an appointment with him. Now he is in a dilemma because he is actually with Priya, but finds Alice very attractive and is now wondering whether he should do something with her or not. In the end he decides to do it, but then backs down at the last moment and is therefore put in front of the door by Alice. He confesses the incident to Priya via Skype, whereupon she confesses to him that she recently had sex with her ex-boyfriend, which hurt Leonard very much. Sheldon seizes the opportunity and chases Leonard disguised as a zombie, but still a real shock.

Sheldon is annoyed that since Penny has been there, the table conversations have been about trivialities (like Bernadette's current wedding dress) instead of intellectually demanding topics. So he tries to bring in “interesting” topics from self-written “conversation cards”, which, however, are not met with much approval. Bernadette goes with Penny to choose the clothes for the wedding, but does not take Amy with her because her latent homoerotic stories about strange wedding customs get on her nerves. When Amy learns that Penny and Bernadette left without her, she is very hurt. She sees herself ostracized from the friendship again and withdraws into her apartment. Sheldon seeks her out and this time can't avoid cuddling her to make her feel better. The next day, he furiously reproaches Howard and Leonard and expects them to call Penny and Bernadette to order. They visit Amy at work to apologize to her. Amy doesn't believe them that the apology is sincere, and she sinks into self-pity. Later, Leonard and Sheldon even have to pick her up drunk from a shop parking lot. The next day, Penny and Bernadette visit her again in their laboratory and Bernadette offers her to make amends to be her maid of honor. Amy happily accepts the offer and starts to plan the details.

Leonard and Penny try to go out alone as "friends". Since it is not a date and there will be no sex afterwards anyway, Leonard decides this time not to agree to everything and sometimes to get his way. So he chooses the film and lets Penny pay for her movie ticket and her own food, visibly enjoying the new situation. Penny takes the opportunity in the bar to get back at him by flirting with a strange man in front of his eyes and ignoring him. Leonard tries to repay her the same way and the evening ends with the two of them putting each other down in public. Afterwards they both apologize for their behavior, but also decide that they are not ready to do anything just as friends again. Meanwhile, Sheldon has an uninvited guest: a blue-cheeked jay (incorrectly referred to by Sheldon as a blue jay ) has made himself comfortable on the windowsill and defies Sheldon's bizarre attempts to scare him away. When Sheldon opens the window, the bird even flies in and takes a seat on the couch. Sheldon, who suffers from ornithophobia, calls on Amy and Bernadette, who find his behavior silly. Bernadette finally manages to convince Sheldon of the harmlessness of the bird and he even befriends him. When he carelessly opens the window again and the bird flies away, he is sad and tries to find the bird again with a poster campaign.

Amy accompanies Sheldon and the others to the comic book store and meets Stuart there. He is blown away and asks Leonard to ask Sheldon whether he would have any objections when he meets with his "girlfriend". Sheldon initially pretends that he doesn't care and gives Stuart the green light. He doesn't want to admit that it touches him emotionally and prefers to devote himself to the latest collectible card game expansion pack, which the others have long since fallen for despite the high price. Eventually, his jealousy gets out of hand and he seeks out Penny, whom he asks out on a date to get back at Amy. She sees through his motives and explains to him that he will not achieve anything and that he has to talk to Amy. He visits her at the cinema, where she is on a date with Stuart, and asks her to give their relationship a new status and become his steadfast friend. So that everything is in order, Sheldon has drawn up a relationship framework agreement, similar to the roommate agreement with Leonard, in which all aspects of the relationship are meticulously regulated. Amy signs the contract and becomes "officially" Sheldon's girlfriend.

Leonard is surprised when Jimmy Speckerman, one of his high school tormentors, answers and wants to meet him. He agrees to the meeting, but takes the others with him as a precaution. Jimmy is unexpectedly nice to Leonard and wants his help to implement an idea for an invention, so that Leonard moves away from confronting Jimmy with his past misdeeds. This is done by Sheldon, who misinterprets Jimmy's compliments as sarcasm. Later, the drunk Jimmy visits Leonard at home and apologizes for being so mean to him in the past. Leonard lets Jimmy spend the night in the shared apartment. After he slept off his intoxication, he is the same disgust as before and when Leonard dares to face him, he even has to flee from his own apartment with Sheldon. Meanwhile, it turns out that Penny also bullied weaker people at school. Since their victims are disinterested in apologies over the phone, Amy and Bernadette persuade them to do something charitable to make up for their past guilt and to feel better. Penny decides - for rather selfish motives - to donate clothes. Not only does she hand in any items of clothing that are no longer needed, she also uses the old clothes container to service herself free of charge. Amy and Bernadette are not very enthusiastic at first, but soon afterwards all three go on a hunt together.

Sheldon and Amy have one of the dates they negotiated in the relationship framework agreement (see season 5, episode 10) at the Cheesecake Factory. Amy tells him about her important scientific discovery, which will soon be honored with a publication in a renowned specialist journal. Sheldon is unimpressed and doesn't even listen to her, which annoys Amy very much. Sheldon doesn't understand her behavior, but Penny makes it clear to him that he has hurt Amy's feelings and needs to be more interested in his girlfriend. She accompanies him to the jeweler in order to choose a reconciliation gift with him, which in the end is actually a complete success. Howard, meanwhile, appears with Bernadette at his cousin's children's birthday party with a magic show and realizes that Bernadette absolutely cannot handle children. She then even reveals to him that she has no desire to have children either. He starts to doubt the relationship and the upcoming wedding because he definitely wants to have children at some point. Finally, Bernadette agrees to conciliate him with a compromise proposal: She will not oppose mutual children, but only if Howard then takes care of the upbringing as a househusband while she continues to work and earns the money.

Leonard spontaneously asks Penny out on a date. She's pretty baffled, but agrees and the two go out to eat together. After it seems to be a wonderful evening, after a while the two get into a dispute about why their previous relationship didn't work: Allegedly, Leonard always thinks too much about everything and talks too much. After his return, Leonard is quite frustrated with the outcome of the date, but is surprisingly woken up by Penny in the middle of the night and the two have sex. You first decide to try out whether another attempt works and you don't want to tell the others yet. The next time they meet in the Cheesecake Factory, the two get into an argument before everyone else, but Leonard's part was only played to keep up appearances. Nevertheless, Penny is angry about it and reproaches him again the following night, but then both end up in Penny's bed again. In the end, however, the whole thing turns out to be a daydream of Leonard, who had watched Penny through the open door of her apartment and had imagined a scenario how the two could get together again. Instead of leaving it at that, he goes to her as in his daydream and asks for a date, whereupon she also agrees in reality.

Leonard and Penny are dating again, but this time they don't want to rush anything. Leonard suggests subjecting their relationship to a beta test, analogous to the software test phase : If one of the two discovers behavior that bothers him, he notes it down so that the other can react to it and correct the error. Penny agrees, but did not count on Leonard's meticulousness in such matters, which resulted in an unexpectedly long list. Penny soon returned the favor with an equally detailed bug report. Since they u. a. found the activities proposed by him boring, he got the tip from her father to go with her to the shooting range, where he caused a (rather harmless) accident. Meanwhile, Rajesh has bought an iPhone and is flirting with Siri , the female voice of the built-in voice control. His behavior takes on more and more grotesque traits - up to a downright infatuation with the "woman" with whom, unlike real women, he can talk. While Sheldon congratulates him on his evolutionary leap, Howard and Bernadette are very irritated by Rajesh's behavior. Sheldon would like to make the internet world happy with a video blog about flags, but the attempts to make it entertaining together with Amy (among other things, at the end of the episode you can hear her speak a few words of German dressed as a pretzel and a Bavarian in lederhosen) are rather clumsy and involuntarily weird.

Sheldon wakes Leonard in the middle of the night for one of his regularly scheduled disaster exercises and later assesses its performance as poor before everyone else. When he asked Leonard to drive him to the dentist and referred to the roommate agreement, Leonard had finally had enough and terminated the agreement. Sheldon no longer considers himself friends with Leonard, but realizes that no one else is willing to drive him everywhere in their car. So he tries to convince Leonard of the merits of the agreement. He even causes a power failure in the entire building and wants to bait Leonard with his emergency equipment, but he prefers to go to Penny. Sheldon see them both there under a pretext, whereby Penny realizes that Sheldon is sad about the current state. She persuades Leonard to talk to his roommate and when Leonard offers as a gesture of concession to celebrate "Leonard Day" once a year in recognition of his services, Leonard agrees to put the agreement into effect again. Meanwhile, Howard is searching for a cool nickname for his astronaut career. Since it is customary for this to be determined by the astronaut colleagues, he and Rajesh devise a plan that should get his NASA colleagues to choose the desired name the next time they video chat . However, his mother thwarted the plan with one of her heckling.

Sheldon is "ordered" a week's vacation by the rector of the university. Since he is not in the mood for a vacation trip, he decides to spend the week as a "biologist" in Amy's laboratory. He naturally hopes for scientifically challenging activities and is offended when Amy only lets him do simple auxiliary work and is also dissatisfied with the results. The two get into an argument and in order to demonstrate his unsuitability as a biologist, she asks him to dissect a brain. Instead of completing the task, he injures himself with a scalpel and faints from being unable to see blood. Howard meanwhile has another problem: he has to sign a prenuptial agreement. He is not very happy about it, especially because he did not find out about it from Bernadette, but from Leonard via detours. He and Sheldon find themselves in the bar of the Cheesecake Factory, where both want to have drinks against the frustration. Penny, who is already very well informed about the incidents, speaks to both of them, however, so that Sheldon actually apologizes to Amy the next day and Howard shows himself forgiving towards Bernadette. In conversation, he learns that Bernadette's father is actually behind the wish and decides to have a man-to-man conversation with him. However, when he learns that he is not a particularly sociable contemporary, he gives up his plan again.

After the physics professor Rothman got old and got whimsical (for example, he walks around naked and thinks himself invisible), he is retired from the university. This frees his office and Sheldon argues with Barry Kripke about who should get it. University President Siebert has little interest in clarifying the question and so Sheldon suggests a duel, with a quiz about Star Trek or model railways in mind. In order to give Kripke a fair chance, Leonard suggests a sporting competition instead, as both are equally bad at it. Indeed, both turn out to be incompetent basketball players, but eventually Sheldon prevails in the increasingly simple tasks and takes over Professor Rothman's office. However, he is not happy with it, because the office turns out to be a huge failure for various reasons and Sheldon is soon a nervous wreck. Amy gives Penny a large painting that shows both of them. Penny feels uncomfortable with the huge picture on the wall and secretly hangs it up again, but Amy notices this and is therefore very hurt and questions her friendship with Penny. In the end, she has to give in for the sake of friendship and even with excuses she can no longer avoid granting the picture the place of honor in her apartment that Amy had hoped for.

Since his hairdresser is in a coma, Sheldon is forced to let his hair grow out because he doesn't think anyone else is qualified to cut it properly. He also rejects Penny's offer to do this. After a while, however, he begins to rethink his stuck routines because, contrary to his assumption, nothing bad will happen, even though he had not had his hair cut at the scheduled time. Eventually he questions his entire lifestyle, which was built on consistent planning, and begins to behave irrationally. When he kills Leonard and Penny with bongos , an argument breaks out and Sheldon leaves the apartment in the middle of the night. The next morning Leonard and Penny find him sleeping on Amy's couch and Penny finally convinces him to let her cut his hair. But she slips while shaving her neck, which Sheldon does not notice. Howard has meanwhile received the invitation to astronaut training in Texas and is visibly overwhelmed with the weightlessness and survival training. Concerned Bernadette followed him to support him. To her surprise, however, she meets Howard's mother when she arrives.

Rajesh wants to compete in a 48-hour Star Wars online game marathon with the other boys. Sheldon desperately wants to join in, even though he had promised Amy to accompany her on her aunt's 93rd birthday. She finally wants to introduce him to her family and show that her boyfriend is not made up, but really exists. When he finally plans to take his computer with him and play games at the party instead of talking to Amy's family, Amy's family drives off alone. Afterwards she howls at Penny, who plays a drinking game with her to cheer her up, but Penny permanently loses. Penny is therefore quite drunk and shows up with Amy in the flat, where she incites her to make a scene for Sheldon in front of everyone. Not only are the four boys sitting in the shared apartment, but also Bernadette, who had invited herself to Sheldon's and Rajesh's annoyance. In fact, Amy's emotional "outburst" causes Sheldon to agree not to continue playing but to do something with her. Thereupon Rajesh let his frustration run wild, because he had hoped for a weekend just like in "old times", when none of them had a girlfriend. Penny, Amy and Bernadette then clear the field and the four boys can go on undisturbed until after a long night, Howard's mother is angry at the door and Howard has to leave.

Penny eats with the others in the apartment and Sheldon complains again that she is fed for free. She decides it's time to return the favor and buys Leonard and Sheldon an original Star Trek toy van. Of course, to Penny's disappointment, neither of them want to open the package so as not to reduce the value. But then Sheldon appears his Spock collector figure in a dream and convinces him to play with Penny's gift. Unfortunately he breaks it and swaps it with the copy that Leonard had received. As a result, however, he gets into a conflict of conscience, which manifests itself in a new dream with the Spock figure. When Leonard opens the package for Penny's sake and discovers "his" broken copy, Sheldon confesses the truth after trying some excuses and gives Leonard his copy back. Meanwhile, Rajesh is tired of being single and asks his parents to help him find a wife. They arrange a meeting with an Indian woman, Lakshmi, and they both get along well. It turns out, however, that Lakshmi is a lesbian and Rajesh thought that he was gay. She is only looking for a fictitious marriage so that her parents will calm down. Rajesh is desperate enough to seriously consider the option, but Howard and Bernadette talk him out of it and so that he is no longer so alone, they give him a dog.

Stephen Hawking attends university and has hired Howard to maintain his wheelchair. When Howard tells Sheldon about it, Hawking desperately wants to meet Hawking and send him his latest treatise on the Higgs boson , because he sees him as a like-minded person and perhaps the only person in the world who is intellectually equal. Howard wants it to Sheldon, who misses every opportunity to ridicule him for his lack of a doctorate and who only treats his career as an engineer with arrogance and condescension, but does not make it so easy. He uses the opportunity to get back at Sheldon, who has to do one or the other annoying task for Howard (for example, accompany Howard's mother while shopping) and even appear at the university disguised as a sexy housemaid. Finally, Howard allows him to meet Stephen Hawking (to whom he has long since secretly sent Sheldon's treatise) and they both talk about Sheldon's supposedly groundbreaking work. However, Hawking draws his attention to a simple miscalculation right at the beginning of his work, and when Sheldon, ashamed, realizes that he has given his idol a flawed work to read, he passes out in front of Hawking.

Howard and Bernadette's wedding is approaching, and the boys decide it's time for Howard's bachelorette party. Out of consideration for Bernadette and much to the annoyance of Barry Kripke, who is also invited, Howard waives the actually obligatory stripper. All they do is go for fancy dining, with even Sheldon complying, drinking alcohol and trying to make a funny speech. But this is just as unlikely as Leonard's convulsive attempts to portray himself as "wild" and "cool" triggered by Penny's recent comment. Only when the drunken Rajesh pulls off the leather and reveals Howard's previous sexual escapades does the mood arise. Unfortunately, Wil Wheaton is also one of the guests, who films everything and puts it on the Internet. In fact, Bernadette comes across the video and is sad and disappointed because Howard had always kept all this from her. She is no longer sure about wanting to marry Howard and hides at home. There Penny, of whom Bernadette is also disappointed, since she knew about Howard's previous life and had never said anything, and Amy, who is more concerned about losing her role as maid of honor, try in vain to cheer her up. Finally, Howard manages to make her conciliatory with an emotional speech and to take away her doubts about the wedding.

Howard gets a call from NASA that his space mission is being canceled due to technical problems. He pretends to be disappointed, but is secretly happy because he is afraid of going into space. He now devotes himself to the wedding preparations, in the course of which Leonard comes up with the idea of proposing to Penny in bed, which Penny naturally refuses in horror. Howard ends up in a quandary when NASA changes plans again and he is even supposed to leave before the planned wedding date. He tries to find reasons not to fly and even speaks to Bernadette's father in the hope that he will forbid him to postpone his daughter's wedding. His plan does not work out, however, as both Bernadette and her father encourage him to begin the mission into space. Sheldon, meanwhile, has another problem: Amy tries to use neurobiological tricks to bind him closer to herself during the date night, using pleasant childhood memories to make the time together as pleasant as possible for him. This is to transform his emotions into affection for her. Sheldon sees through her strategy on the one hand exactly, but on the other hand cannot defend himself against it.

The big day has come: Howard's space mission begins. While he and the other two astronauts wait for the start, he thinks back to the past few days. Bernadette had decided to get married at least in a small circle at the registry office before Howard's space flight. Amy is not very enthusiastic because she feels cheated out of the role of maid of honor and Leonard also has little joy in the upcoming events, as he is raised by the others because of his own unsuitable marriage proposal (see season 5, episode 23). Unfortunately, the registry office turns out to be overcrowded and Bernadette and Howard don't get it. Finally, Rajesh had the idea of improvising a wedding ceremony on the roof of Sheldon, Leonard's and Penny's house shortly before departure, as the Google Earth satellite would fly over Pasadena at the time and the wedding would therefore be immortalized on the Internet. Since no pastor can be found in a hurry, Rajesh, Leonard, Penny, Sheldon and Amy get a license and marry the happy couple together and in their very own way (Sheldon tries to do his part in Klingon, for example), with Howards too Mother helps shape the ceremony with her constant heckling. At the end of the episode, the rocket with the married Howard breaks off to the international space station under the spellbound gaze of his friends, who have gathered in the shared apartment in front of the television and are devoutly watching the launch .
