The Dawn of the Black Hearts - Live in Sarpsborg, NORWAY 28/2/1990 is the most famous bootleg of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem . On this is a performance by the band in Sarpsborg on February 28, 1990 in poor sound quality. The bootleg is particularly known for its record cover .

History of origin

After the band's singer, Dead , shot himself in 1991, guitarist Euronymous photographed his body before notifying the police. He intended to use the images for the next Mayhem LP; They did not appear in the artwork for Mayhem's debut album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas , however.

Instead, Mauricio "Bull Metal" Montoya from the Colombian band Typhon used them on the bootleg The Dawn of the Black Hearts - Live in Sarpsborg, NORWAY 28/2/1990 , which he released in 1995 on his label Warmaster Records. A letter from Euronymous is printed on the back of the LP, in which he reported on Dead's death and his plans. Jan Axel Blomberg later accused Metalion , the editor of the Slayer fanzine and Head Not Found label boss , of being the co-editor of the bootleg and said that Montoya had given the picture to Montoya, as he was “the only one [sic!] To have this picture from Euronymous got". However, Metalion dismissed these allegations as silly rumors.

“The cover doesn't necessarily show Dead in the prime of his life. I would never have done that. People should remember a strong, proud Dead. "

reception

The bootleg was re-released several times, including as a picture disc with the label "No Fuckin 'Label". In the later releases, the title is mostly just Dawn of the Black Hearts . CD versions also contain a recording of a 1986 appearance in Lillehammer , on which Mayhem Danse played Macabre ( Celtic Frost ), Black Metal ( Venom ), Procreation of the Wicked (Celtic Frost) and Welcome to Hell (Venom). A CD version with the label " Deathlike Silence Productions " (actually Euronymous' after his murder and some posthumous releases discontinued label) and the number "Anti-Mosh 666" also contains Mayhem's demo Pure Fucking Armageddon .

Due to its importance and its historical context, The Dawn of the Black Hearts is listed as the only bootleg on the Encyclopaedia Metallum website .
