The Gauwailers is an Upper Palatinate dialect - reggae band that can be classified as part of New Folk Music in terms of style .

history

The band was founded in 2002 and is at home in the Upper Palatinate region . The name is a play on the acronym GAU ( greatest accident to be assumed ) and the reggae band The Wailers , which is why the second part of the name is pronounced in English. The association with the name Peter Gauweiler representative of the CSU- governed state of Bavaria was chosen deliberately.

For many years, the band only appeared at scene festivals and in clubs all over Bavaria without releasing the songs on sound carriers. Among other things, The Gauwailers were seen several times in the Alte Mälzerei in Regensburg , in the Schlachthof in Munich and at the Tollwood Festival in Munich. They appeared at Südwild and AliKhan.tv , among others, and together with their friend Hans Söllner .

In 2011 what was probably the best-known title Pharisee appeared on the fourth Hart & Zart sampler of the Regensburg association MundArtAgeh Society for the Promotion of Bavarian Dialect in Contemporary Popular Culture eV 2012 became the debut album after ten years of band existence together with musician and writer Roland "Golly" Hertlein recorded.

Front man Michael Süllner, graphic artist and illustrator, documented the band's history in an illustrated book.

style

The formation calls their style of music “Bavarian- Jamaican dance music”. The texts are critical of politics.

Roland Biswurm from Bayern 2 kulturWelt reviewed the album Junkfood Kingdom with the words: “… Now The Gauwailers have presented a provocative disc. Of course, this wild mix of styles is reminiscent of the Wailers [...] But then the Gau plays a role - the biggest accident to be expected, but also the area between Upper Palatinate and Franconia , the Bavarian Jura . And the name of a well-known politician. The lyrics are as profound as the music at times and the Gauwailers are nothing short of a discovery. "

Others

Drummer Wolfgang Lang also played with the Britpop band the TurningOns from 2006 to 2011 .
