The Liars are a New York City rock band formed in 2000 whose music can be described as experimental.

history

The Liars were founded in New York by Australian singer Angus Andrew and guitarist Aaron Hemphill after both had previously studied in California. They got to know Ron Albertson (drums) and Pat Noecker (bass) through an advertisement, who from then on completed the formation. In this line-up, the debut album They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top , released in 2001, was recorded, which met with largely positive criticism. In the New York Times , the style of this album as "was dissonant " radio - Punk called.

In 2002 Albertson and Noecker left the group, adding the drummer Julian Gross. The Liars published in 2004 on Mute Records , the David Andrew Sitek (guitarist of TV on the Radio album) produced They Were Wrong, So We Drowned , was ambivalent recorded and classified as inaudible from one part of the critics, the Internet magazine Pitchfork Media was the The term “ sadistic ” was used to describe the music. When They Were Wrong ... It is a concept album whose theme witches or the Walpurgisnacht is.

The band then moved to Berlin and worked there on the third album Drum's Not Dead , released in 2006 , which was certified in the Guardian to be both more experimental and more accessible than its predecessor. The following year the fourth album followed with Liars .

The band has been on tour with Interpol , Sonic Youth , Blues Explosion , Radiohead , the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Blood Brothers, among others .
