useful information
The band members wrote their lyrics themselves. However, some songs were worked on with other people. Christine Connolly, the ex-wife of front man Tyler Connolly, took part in the tracks Lowlife , Out of My Head , The Truth Is… (I Lied About Everything) and What Was I Thinking . The lyrics to B **** Came Back and Hurricane were written by the pop singer Kara DioGuardi . The country singer Brett James wrote the lyrics of Out of My Head . With Head Above Water Scott Stevens worked from the rock band The Exies with. The lyrics are mainly about love and longing or hatred of women. So act Out of My Head and Easy to Love You by the desire for a person while those feelings in The Truth Is ... (I Lied About Everything) will be reversed clearly the opposite: The song is about the relationship between two people only ( The truth is… It was all pretend, all along I've been sleeping with your best friend, the truth is… I really hate your face, you were never all that hot in the first place ). B **** Came Back , on the other hand, contains misogynistic content. The music style is located in the alternative rock or post-grunge area and is based on bands such as Nickelback , Puddle of Mudd , Bon Jovi and Kid Rock . In support of the album, the band toured the US on the Carnival of Madness Tour with Black Stone Cherry, among others . Another tour under the name Avalanche Tour followed in 2011 together with bands like Halestorm and Skillet . A planned tour through Germany was canceled at short notice via Facebook in March 2012 due to scheduling problems . The single Head Above Water was contributed to the Transformers 3 soundtrack .
reception
The album received mostly negative reviews. Albert Ranner from cdstarts.de criticizes the album across the board and awards 3 out of 10 possible points. The album is predictable, unimaginative and absolutely suitable for the hit parade. He sees the singles Lowlife and Drag Me to Hell as musical highlights . He also criticizes the stereotypical description of women. In addition, there is a one-dimensional image of women in the texts that Mr. Connolly should be ashamed of. The texts are extremely flat. Even stupid refrains like “I, I, I, I, I can't get you out of my head” stand out positively, although even Fönfrisur Kroeger would probably be ashamed of such a Schni-Schna-Schnappi text. Stephen Thomas Erlewine awarded 1 out of 5 stars for allmusic.com. He complains that every song on the album sounds like it was written by Chad Kroeger himself. ( Every song on The Truth Is… sounds as if it were ghost-written by Chad Kroeger ). The music is not bad and visceral, rather it is castrated rock music with a terrible heart ( This isn't ugly visceral music; it's castrated rock with a rotten heart. ).
Chart success
Singles
Despite the success of The Truth Is ... the singles missed the international charts. In Canada, only Lowlife was able to place itself in the official charts.
