The theater in the town hall is a privately run theater in Essen .

history

The theater in the town hall on the ground floor of the 1979 inaugurated the town hall . The studio stage with 265 seats was initially used as a dépendence of the Essen theater ( Grillo-Theater ). In 1991 Inge Meysel opened today's theater in the town hall with Jean Bouchard's play Teures Glück . Since then, it has been under the direction of Theater-Produktion Thalia GmbH.

The repertoire ranges from genres from tabloid comedy to crime novels , operettas and musicals to classical drama .

World premieres are also shown - most recently in 2010 the comedy A Gold Boy for Emily by Folker Bohnet and the musical Female, 45plus, so what!?! Menopause (also known as the hot times ) by Tilmann von Blomberg. The actor and author Gunther Beth can also be seen regularly with his plays.

Stage artists such as Brigitte Grothum , Viola Wedekind , Jacques Breuer , Jenny Jürgens , Markus Majowski , Martin Lüttge , Horst Janson , Martin Lindow , Désirée Nick , Sabine Menne , Alexandra Kamp and Volker Brandt performed here in the 2010/2011 season. Also Doris Kunstmann , Herbert Herrmann and Nora von Collande , Günter Lamprecht , Susanne Uhlen , Anita Kupsch , Karin Dor , Ilja Richter , Uwe Friedrichsen , Edith Hancke , Michael Lesch or Peter bause play again in the theater at City Hall. The Essen actor and cabaret artist Thomas Glup has his stage home here. Inge Meysel and Charles Regnier are honorary members of the theater in the town hall.
