Theodor Charlemont (born January 1, 1859 in Znojmo , Moravia , † October 13, 1938 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Theodor Charlemont came from a family of artists. He was the son of the miniature painter Matthias Adolf Charlemont (1820–1871) and brother of the painters Eduard (1848–1906) and Hugo Charlemont (1850–1939). He was a student of the German sculptor Caspar von Zumbusch (1830–1915), the monumental sculptor of the Wilhelminian era in Austria.

In 1913 he became an honorary boy of the Alemannia fraternity in Vienna .

Theodor Charlemont created numerous sculptures , medallions and busts of personalities, not only for private clients, but often for public institutions and tombs in city cemeteries.

One of his students was the sculptor and craftsman Friedrich Gornik .
