Theodor Cuno

Theodor Friedrich Cuno (born September 5, 1846 in Tecklenburg ; † March 24, 1934 in New Llano , Louisiana ) was a German-American mechanical engineer , journalist and member of the International Workers' Association . He used the pseudonym Frederico Capestro .

Life

Theodor Friederich Cuno was the son of Eduard Heinrich Cuno and the Pharaid (Pharaild) geb. De Rochants . He was baptized on September 27th.

In 1869 he was in Chemnitz Member Social Democratic Labor Party and learned Wilhelm Liebknecht and August Bebel know there.

In 1870, Cuno was a member of the “Vienna Workers' Association”. In the autumn of 1871 Cuno went to Milan , worked in the "Elvetica" factory and on January 7, 1872 founded the Milan section of the International Workers' Association. On January 11, 1871, he wrote to Friedrich Engels : "Since the patron gave me the alternative of either leaving the International or leaving, I preferred the latter". On February 28, 1872 he was arrested in Milan and expelled at the instigation of Rudolph Schramm , the Prussian consul in Milan. He went to Düsseldorf , where his father lived, and from there to Seraing and Liège in Belgium . In September 1872 he was a delegate to the Hague Congress of the IAA and chairman of the commission that investigated Bakunin's activities . As a delegate, he had mandates from Düsseldorf and Stuttgart . After the Hague Congress he went to New York with Friedrich Adolph Sorge and lived in the United States until the end of his life. There he was one of the leaders of the union organization The Knights of Labor and an employee of the "New Yorker People's Newspaper". In September 1888 he interviewed Friedrich Engels for this newspaper.

At the 1905 census, his wife Pauline (* 1861), son Rowland Cuno (* 1875), daughters Rosebud Cuno (* 1885), Lena Cuno (* 1889) and Violet B. Cuno (* 1891 ) lived in his Brooklyn household ), the sons George H. Cuno (* 1891) and John B. Cuno (* 1895), the son-in-law Joseph T. Cosgrove (* 1869), his daughter Steaël Cosgrove, b. Cuno (1879) and the grandchild Dorethie E. Cosgrove (* 1897).

Cuno died on March 24, 1934 in the city of New Llano, Louisiana.
