Theodor Hurtig

Theodor Hurtig (born December 17, 1897 in Königsberg , † September 4, 1977 in Greifswald ) was a German geographer , meteorologist and didactic specialist .

Life

The teacher's son passed his Abitur in 1917 in Königsberg, where he studied Romance languages, English, geography and geology (with Karl Erich Andrée ) up to a doctorate. phil. 1921 at Max Friederichsen about "Das Pregel - Deime Urstromtal". He also completed his legal clerkship in Königsberg and was appointed headmaster in Nordenburg in 1923 . In 1927 he became a teacher in Bartenstein , and from 1928 to 1935 in Königsberg at the Körte-Oberlyzeum. From 1935 he was a lecturer in geography and methodology at the college for teacher training in Elbing , from 1941 to January 1945 at the teacher training college in Elbing. From 1939 to 1945 he worked as a Wehrmacht meteorologist and government councilor for the duration of the war. He was a member of the NSDAP since May 1933 , deputy. Ortsgruppenleiter the Section Geography in the National Socialist Teachers' Federation Königsberg and since 1934 Gau for geography in NSLB, Gau East Prussia . He was a member of the Research Council of the Albertina (Königsberg) and the Copernicus Society in Danzig.

In 1946 he became associate professor for practical pedagogy at the University of Rostock , from 1951 full professor for geography at the University of Greifswald until he retired in 1963. From 1954 he headed the branch of the Institute for State Research and Nature Conservation . Since 1954 he was a founding member of the Geographical Society of the GDR , since 1957 a member of the Meteorological Society of the GDR . He was honored with the Alexander von Humboldt Medal (1959) and the Pestalozzi Medal for loyal service (1960).
