Theodor Kutzer (born January 30, 1864 in Amberg , † February 26, 1948 in Fürth ) was a German politician. He was Lord Mayor of Fürth and Mannheim .

Life

After graduating from high school in Landshut in 1882 , Kutzer studied law in Munich through the Maximilianeum Foundation . During his studies he became a member of the Academic Choral Society in Munich . In 1890 he became a legal assessor with the city of Munich and in 1892 a legal councilor. In 1899 he became an alderman in Düsseldorf before he returned to Bavaria two years later after he had been elected First Mayor of the city of Fürth. From 1908, Kutzer carried the title of Lord Mayor . Under his leadership, the city experienced a great boom. A gas and electricity plant was built, but he also had social issues in mind with the establishment of a maternity and baby home, non-profit housing and a public education center with a library.

At the age of fifty, Kutzer moved to Mannheim, where he was elected mayor in 1914. Shortly afterwards the First World War began , so that the most urgent task was initially to supply the population with food and, after the end of the war, to resolve the housing shortage. Economically, the city got into difficulties with the cession of Alsace-Lorraine and the French occupation of the Palatinate , because industry and the port lost important parts of their hinterland. Nevertheless, important infrastructure projects such as the Herschelbad and the clinic were able to be implemented. In 1922, Kutzer was re-elected almost unanimously. Now, with the National Theater , Castle Museum , Museum of Natural History and Ethnology and the Planetarium , cultural projects have also received strong support.

For health reasons, Kutzer retired in 1928. He spent his retirement in Munich and later in Traunstein . In the winter of 1947/48 he went back to Fürth, where he died shortly afterwards.
