Wilhelm Wenning
Wilhelm Wenning (born October 18, 1950 in Nuremberg ) was President of the Government of Upper Franconia from 2007 to 2016 .
education and profession
After graduating from the Hardenberg-Gymnasium in Fürth , Wenning studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 1979 he joined the civil service as a judge at the Ansbach Administrative Court . From 1982 to 1990 he worked at the Neustadt District Office on Aisch-Bad Windsheim .
MP
In 1978 Wenning was elected to the city council of Fürth for the first time at the age of 27 for the CSU . He was a member of this - most recently also as parliamentary group chairman - until his election to the Bavarian state parliament in 1990. Wenning was a member of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament from 1990 to 1994 (12th legislative period).
At the end of 1994 he returned to the administrative court in Ansbach as a judge.
Public offices
In the local elections in March 1996, Wenning was surprisingly elected Lord Mayor of Fürth with 50.79% in the runoff election against incumbent Uwe Lichtenberg ( SPD ). With almost 40,000 ballot papers submitted, Wenning had a lead of just 617 votes. Since Thomas Jung (SPD) lost the office of mayor in March 2002, Wenning worked for the government of Upper Franconia in Bayreuth.
In May 2002 he became head of Department I - Central Tasks and representative of the Government Vice-President. From January 1, 2004 he held the office of Government Vice President.
Since January 1, 2007, Wilhelm Wenning was the district president of the government of Upper Franconia ; he retired on February 29, 2016.
Others
Wenning was a non-professional judge at the Bavarian Constitutional Court in Munich from 1994 to 2008 . For many years Wenning was 1st chairman of the Bavarian Red Cross Fürth and 1st chairman of Kunstfreunde e. V. Fürth. Since September 30, 2017, he has been chairman of the regional association of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge eV in Bavaria.
In 2002 Wenning was awarded the Golden Citizen Medal of the City of Fürth . On June 27, 2018, he received the Bavarian Order of Merit .
On March 30, 2012 Wenning was elected chairman of the Historical Association for Upper Franconia in Bayreuth; he succeeded Bernd Mayer .
He is married and has two children.
