from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melchior Ignatius Nicolaus Stenglein , since 1841 Knight of Stenglein (born October 21, 1790 in Kronach , † September 10, 1857 in Bayreuth ) was State Councilor and District President of Upper Franconia .

Life

Melchior Stenglein was the son of Christoph Friedrich Stenglein (1744–1803) and Anna Rosina Limmer (1755–1849). He studied law in Bamberg, Würzburg and Landshut and initially worked at the Ebermannstadt district court in the Main district and at the Bamberg police department. He worked for the government of the Obermainkreis from 1817, most recently as a councilor. From 1838 to 1840 he was government director at the interior authority in Lower Franconia .

In 1840 he succeeded Ferdinand von Andrian-Werburg and became the first non-noble district president of Upper Franconia, and he held this office until his death on September 10, 1857. He was buried in Bamberg on September 11, 1857 . His successor in office was Friedrich Freiherr von Podewils .

In 1841 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility and he was allowed to call himself Ritter von Stenglein after his entry in the nobility register . In 1846 Stenglein received the Commander's Cross of this order.

From his tenure in office it is said that he gave the inauguration speech for the Bamberg train station on August 25, 1844 and that his behavior largely prevented the events in Upper Franconia from escalating during the unrest in March 1848.

His first marriage to Maria Anna von Kammerloher (1795–1827) in Bayreuth in 1821 resulted in three children, Maria Anna Rosina (1822–1823), Rosina Elisabeth Maria (1824–1888) and Melchior Ignaz Hermann Heinrich Christoph (1825– 1903). His second marriage to Maria Sophia Freiin von und zu Egloffstein (1804−?) After the death of his first wife remained childless.
