Karl Häupler

Karl Gottlieb Häupler (born January 2, 1906 in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate ; † June 21, 1945 in internment camp 71 of the US Army in Aldingen ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Born as the son of a secretarial assistant, Häupler attended the Realreformgymnasium in Nuremberg from 1916 to 1926 . In 1922 he became a member of the Bundes Oberland and the Wehrverband Reichsflagge , in 1923 of the Wehrverband Altreichsflagge . From 1926 he studied law and political science in Erlangen and Munich . During his studies in 1926 he became a member of the Germania Erlangen fraternity . As a student, he was a temporary volunteer with the Reichswehr and a student trainee at the Nuremberg Railway Repair Works . In 1931 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD . In 1932 he became a member of the NSDAP , in 1933 of the SA ( Sturmbannführer ). After his exams in 1930 and 1933, after a brief period as a lawyer, he entered the Bavarian administrative service. After holding several positions he was in 1935 Government at district office Illertissen and worked there until 1938 as a county law office leader. In 1937 he became administrative administrator and head of the Illertissen district office, and in 1938 he was provisional district administrator and district administrator in the Mühldorf am Inn district . In 1938 he became mayor of the city of Fürth , in 1939 he was appointed acting mayor for twelve years , and in 1944 mayor. In 1940 he was district leader of the Red Cross in Fürth. In 1941 he refused to be appointed mayor of Strasbourg . He became a member of the SS in 1942 and was last Obersturmbannführer . In 1945 he was interned in internment camp 71 of the US Army in Aldingen, where he died. After his death in 1948, the court proceedings against him were discontinued because he had gone to the SS for tactical reasons and shortly before the American invasion he had contacted the anti-fascist resistance movement and refused nonsensical orders, which ultimately saved the city of Fürth from destruction .
