Theodore Roszak (writer)
Theodore Roszak (born November 15, 1933 in Chicago , Illinois , † July 5, 2011 in Berkeley , California ) was an American historian , university professor and author of several non-fiction books and novels. As a social critic, he coined the term in the 1960s counterculture , counterculture .
Life
Roszak received his PhD from Princeton , was Professor of History at California State University at Hayward, and most recently lived in Berkeley , California. His 1969 published book The Making of a Counter Culture (German title:. Counterculture ) is a standard work on the protest movement this year. The spectrum of his other non-fiction books ranges from alternative forms of life to the importance of ecology and environmental movement to a variety of deep ecology called "ecopsychology" (but see ecopsychology ), which he conceived as a synthesis of ecology and psychology. He also looked at the connection between the increasing destruction of planet earth and the mental disorders of many people. With his project he intended to show ways to heal our alienation and to build a spiritually healthy society and sustainable culture.
In addition to his scientific writings, Roszak also wrote novels. His best known is the 1991 book Flicker (English title: Shadow lights ).
