Therese Catherine Johanna Tietjens (also Tietiens ; born July 17, 1831 in Hamburg ; † October 3, 1877 in London ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher .

Life

Therese Tietjens received her vocal training in Hamburg, where she made her debut as Erma in Le Macon at the Altonaer Stadttheater in 1848 and sang the title role in Donizetti's opera Lucrezia Borgia the following year . Her other engagements took her to Frankfurt am Main in 1850 , to Brno in 1851 and to Vienna in 1853 as a member of the Kärntnertortheater , where she first sang Pamina in Mozart's Magic Flute .

In 1858 she came to London as the prima donna of the Italian Opera , where she made her debut as Valentine in Les Huguenots . Here she celebrated such great success that she made England her second home and sang at the Royal Theater ( Her Majesty's Theater ) and at the Covent Garden Opera . She also made frequent guest appearances in the USA , Spain , Italy , France and also in Germany ( Berlin , Cologne , Hamburg).

Therese Tietjen died on October 3, 1877 in London on a cancer and was in the London Kensal Green cemetery buried.
