Thierry Marie Scherrer (born January 22, 1959 in Versailles , Île-de-France region , France ) is Bishop of Laval .

Life

Thierry Scherrer first studied literature in Montpellier and medicine in Marseille . In 1981 he entered the seminary of Paray-le-Monial and studied from 1984 to 1987 Catholic theology and philosophy at the Saint-Luc seminary in Aix-en-Provence. After further studies at the Institut d'Etudes Théologiques (IET) in Brussels from 1987 to 1989, he received his doctorate in theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University .

He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Aix on June 26, 1988 and initially worked in pastoral care, including as vicar at the Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence and student pastor . From 1996 to 2004 he taught at the Saint-Luc seminary and was superior at the Episcopal Propaedeutic School Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Aix. From 1998 to 2004 he was a priest in Bouc-Bel-Air and Cabriès-Calas. In 2004 he became parish priest of the Puyricard parish and dean of Aix-Sainte Victoire; from 2006 he took over the parishes of Peyrolles, Jouques, Meyrargues, Le-Puy-Sainte-Réparade, Saint-Canadet and Saint-Paul-lès-Durance as well as the pastoral care unit Aix-Val de Durance. In 2007 he was appointed pastor of the parish of the Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence and Dean of Sainte-Victoire.

In 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Laval . He was ordained episcopal by the Archbishop of Rennes , Pierre d'Ornellas , on July 6, 2008 in the Notre-Dame Basilica in Pontmain; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Marseille , Cardinal Bernard Panafieu , and the Archbishop of Aix, Claude Feidt .
