For the club he came in the following years due to injury irregular in Allsvenskan used because he is in the course of playing time in 1978 at the cruciate ligament was injured. Therefore, he left the club after three seasons, in which he had managed three goals in 26 games, and moved to the second division Västerås SK . After a season he moved on to league rivals Vasalunds IF . At the Solnaer Klub he established himself as a regular goalscorer. After he had scored 19 goals in 20 games in the 1982 season, he also attracted attention outside the country's borders.

At the turn of the year 1982/83 Andersson joined VfL Bochum in the German Bundesliga . On January 22, 1983, he made his debut for the team from West Germany in the 3-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf in the top division when he was at the side of Christian Schreier , Wolfgang Patzke and Michael Lameck in the starting lineup. However, he could not prevail and returned to Vasalunds IF in Sweden in the summer. Here he played until the end of the year before he accepted an offer from the Allsvenskan.

For the Allsvenskan season in 1984 Andersson signed a contract with local rivals AIK and entered the goalscorer list on his debut for the new club against Halmstads BK in April of that year. With five goals this season, he contributed to the fact that the club came in second behind last year's champions IFK Göteborg in the championship finals. There he failed in the quarterfinals due to the away goals rule at his former club IFK Norrköping. In the following season he shone as a regular goalscorer and reached the cup final with the team in the summer. There he met against Östers IF just before the end of regular time to equalize 1: 1, which made extra time possible. In the penalty shoot-out he prevailed despite a penalty he missed with the club, as goalkeeper Bernt Ljung outgrew himself and saved three opposing penalty kicks, and celebrated his first title win. In the fall of that year, Andersson had problems with his knee again, so that he was injured. To date, he had scored eight goals in 13 games of the season, without him it was enough for the team at the end of the season only to fifth place in the table.

In the following years Andersson had to pause several times because of his knee and lost his regular place in the attack. After a total of six operations, he said goodbye to the first division at the end of the season in 1987 and returned to Vasalunds IF. After half a year with the club, he ended his active career due to his weakened knee.
