Thomas Antonio Davis (* 22. March 1983 in Shellman , Georgia ) is an American American football poker players in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Carolina Panthers as the outside linebacker from 2005 to 2018 before joining the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019 .

Career

college

Davis showed athletic talent at an early age and played basketball and baseball in addition to football in high school , and was a member of the track and field team. He attended the University of Georgia and between 2002 and 2004 played for their team, the Bulldogs, in various positions in defense successfully college football .

NFL

Carolina Panthers

In the 2005 NFL Draft , he was selected in the first round as the 14th player of the Carolina Panthers. He was actually brought in as safety , but was still being trained as a linebacker in preparation and was already used in all 16 games in his rookie season . He has been a starter since 2006 .

Davis had repeated cruciate ligament problems, which is why he could only play seven games in 2009, only two games in 2011 and the 2010 season was canceled completely. However, he recovered and has been spared injuries ever since. In 2012, he signed a new contract and renounced 3.8 million US dollars in order to stay with the Panthers that otherwise problems with the salary cap would have had.

He was appointed to the Pro Bowl in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons .

In April 2018, the league imposed a four-game ban on Davis for violating doping guidelines for the coming season .

Los Angeles Chargers

After 14 seasons for the Carolina Panthers, Davis became a free agent for the first time in his career and decided in March 2019 to switch to the Los Angeles Chargers , as he saw better sporting prospects there with a potential Super Bowl candidate . In his season for the Chargers, he scored 112 tackles.

Washington Redskins

At the end of March 2020, Davis moved to the Washington Redskins .
