Thomas Feichtner (* 1970 in Vitória / Brazil ) is an Austrian industrial designer .

Life

Thomas Feichtner was born in Vitória in 1970 to Austrian parents . After completing school in Linz and at the Waldorf School in Düsseldorf , he studied industrial design from 1990 to 1995 at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz , where he also taught himself from 2002 to 2005. In 1997 Thomas Feichtner started his own design studio and initially designed sporting goods and capital goods. From 2005 he began to increasingly design products for Austrian manufactories and traditional craft businesses as well as individual experimental pieces for exhibitions. Between 2001 and 2009 he was a partner in an agency for visual communication in Linz and Vienna, from which he separated in 2009. From 2009 to 2014 Thomas Feichtner was Professor of Industrial Design at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel . Since October 2018 he has been head of the bachelor's and master's degree courses in industrial design at the FH Joanneum in Graz . He lives in Vienna and Graz with his wife Simone Feichtner and his son Ferdinand, who was born in 2008 .

During his studies, Thomas Feichtner designed numerous products for the Austrian sports industry, such as skateboards and snowboards for heavy tools or ski bindings for Tyrolia and Fischer . Later also skis for Head and Blizzard . In the field of visual communication, Thomas Feichtner worked for companies such as Swarovski , adidas eyewear , Linz09 European Capital of Culture and the British-Israeli designer Ron Arad . After his early success as an industrial designer, Thomas Feichtner has devoted himself to experimental product design since 2005 and designed for traditional manufacturers such as J&L Lobmeyr , Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten , Carl Mertens (cutlery factory) , Neue Wiener Werkstätten, Wiener Silbermanufactur and Stamm and realized independent projects in cooperation with Vitra and FSB. His works found their way into various design collections, such as the collection of the MAK - Austrian Museum for Applied Arts / Contemporary Art .
