Thomas Reiner (* 1969 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German trumpeter , conductor and university professor .

Life

Reiner studied at music colleges in Weimar , Leipzig and Würzburg , among others with Helmut Erb and Uwe Komischke . He is a lecturer at various institutes a. a. at the PH in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Reiner plays as a soloist in ensembles around the world. His trumpet ensemble for eight trumpets, timpani and organ consists of the trumpeters Katharina Bertsch-Weber, Tamir Akta, Joachim Hilse, Karl Nemecek , Adam Rapa, Margit Csökmei, Tomislav Spoljar and Jürgen Benkö on the organ. He also plays in a duo with the organist Frank Oidtmann, with whom he released an album in 2002. Reiner directs the orchestra of the Musikverein Pflugfelden in Ludwigsburg, with around 30 musicians.

In 2011 he was invited by the International Trumpet Guild as the only German trumpeter to the conference in Minneapolis and in 2013 he played two concerts at the international VG Brass Festival in Zagreb.

Style and reception

Reiner, inspired by the trumpeter Maurice André , focused on works of baroque music . He is known for "his easily designed play in the high register" of the piccolo trumpet, heard in his performances of Bach's 2nd Brandenburg Concerto . He also transcribes and interprets oboe concerts , e.g. B. by Albinoni , Handel or Telemann , and shows "his refined and well-considered art of decoration, his understanding of sound", as well as expressive phrasing and natural articulation.
