Thomas Silberhorn (born November 12, 1968 in Kemmern ) is a German politician ( CSU ) and Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1987 at the Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium in Bamberg , Silberhorn studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Universität Bayreuth , which he completed in 1992 with the first legal Finished state examination . After his legal clerkship , he passed the second state examination in 1994 and then worked as a research assistant at the chair for public law at the University of Bayreuth until 2000 . He has been admitted to the bar since 2001 (currently dormant).

Thomas Silberhorn is married and has two sons.

Silberhorn joined the Junge Union (JU) in 1985 and the CSU in 1987. From 1995 to 2003 he was a member of the state committee of the JU Bavaria and from 1998 to 2002 the JU federal board.

During his studies, Silberhorn received a scholarship from the CDU-affiliated Konrad Adenauer Foundation .

Silberhorn has been chairman of the CSU district association Bamberg-Land since 2009. Since 2005 he has been deputy chairman of the CSU district association in Upper Franconia . Silberhorn is also a member of the CSU party executive.

MP

Silberhorn was a member of the Memmelsdorf town council from 2002 to 2003 and has been a member of the Bamberg district council since 2002 .

He has been a member of the German Bundestag since the 2002 Bundestag election . From 2005 to 2013 he was chairman of the working group for Foreign Affairs, Defense, Europe, Economic Cooperation and Development, Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the CSU regional group and from 2009 to 2013 chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the legal committee of the German Bundestag. In 2014, Silberhorn was deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group for home affairs, law and consumer protection until he was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Thomas Silberhorn has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Bamberg constituency . In the 2013 Bundestag election he received 52.2% of the first votes in his constituency , and 42.1% in the 2017 Bundestag election .

Parliamentary State Secretary

Silberhorn became Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development on February 18, 2014 . He took over the office of Christian Schmidt (CSU), who became Federal Minister of Agriculture. On March 14, 2018, he moved to the same position in the Federal Ministry of Defense .

Memberships

Thomas Silberhorn is a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany , which advocates a federal Europe and the European unification process. He is the first chairman of the Bamberg district association.
