Thorsten White

Thorsten Weiß (born October 13, 1983 in Berlin ) is a German politician of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and member of the Berlin House of Representatives .

Life

Weiß grew up in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district . He was a contract soldier and an officer in the tank force for six years . He then began studying business administration at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Weiß is married and has one son.

Party career

Weiß joined the AfD in 2014, he is a member of the Reinickendorf district association. From 2016 to 2020, Weiß was a member of the state board of the AfD Berlin.

Young alternative Berlin

In 2014, Weiß took over the chairmanship of the youth organization of the regional association, the Junge Alternative Berlin, which was not yet officially recognized at the time . He helped set up the youth organization and in 2015 was able to get it recognized by the mother party as an official youth organization. In 2017 he did not run for the office of state chairman again.

As chairman of the Berlin JA, Weiß spoke at a rally in front of the Red City Hall in mid-2016 . In it he agitated against a “unrealistic, anti-popular and arrogant political caste”. Angela Merkel brought "carpet weavers and goatherds" to Germany. How, so asked Weiß, should one integrate someone who is used to "that Christians should best have their heads cut off". The previous development must be reversed immediately, he demanded. Otherwise Germany will "disappear as a cultural nation after 3000 years of history". Ulrich Kraetzer of the Morgenpost judged that Weiss' speech had left the impression as if he had his words from a “handbook for demagogy” for by exaggerating the membership of the “German people”, demonizing an alleged enemy and invoking the approaching doom written off. The FU political scientist and AfD expert Carsten Koschmieder describes the AfD as a "spiritual arsonist" party.

According to research by Kai Biermann , Astrid Geisler and others, white "apparently functions in the parliamentary group as a hinge to radical right-wing youth groups such as the Identitarian Movement ", which has been observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution since it was founded in 2012 . Among other things, Weiß appeared several times at rallies together with members of the Identitarian Movement. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution confirms that there are personal overlaps between the Junge Alternative and the Identitarian Movement. In January 2017, Weiss finally confirmed this personal overlap and a collaboration between JA and the Identitarian Movement. The AfD had always denied this and distanced itself from the identity movement. White defended the collaboration as “not at all objectionable”. The members of the Identitarian Movement “don't think so differently from us, they just express themselves differently”.

The wing

From 2016 until its self-dissolution in April 2020, White was the chairman of the right-wing national wing of the party " Der Flügel " in Berlin, which in 2020 was classified as right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. He is considered the shop steward of the Thuringian state and parliamentary group chairman Björn Höcke .

Political mandates: Entry into the House of Representatives

White was a direct candidate in constituency 1 Reinickendorf-Ost for election to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 . He received 19.4% of the first votes in third place, the direct mandate won Burkard Dregger (CDU). White moved into the Berlin House of Representatives as a member of the Berlin House of Representatives, taking 9th place on the state list .

White is a member of the main committee as well as the sub-committees for budget control and for human resources and administration / production budget and human resources. He is also a member of the Education Youth and Family Committee. He is chairman of the Committee for Personnel and Administration / Production Budget and Human Resources. At the same time he is the youth policy spokesman for his group.

At the European election meeting on January 11, 2019 in Riesa (Saxony), white was elected to 14th place on the list of candidates for the European Parliament election, the AfD received eleven seats with 11.0% of the votes.

Parliamentary work

Youth and family

Youth Promotion Act

In contrast to all other parliamentary groups, white appeared as a critic of the youth promotion law. Weiß argued that instead of launching programs for the political indoctrination of youth, the lack of social workers had to be remedied in order to respond to specific child welfare threats and to support socially disadvantaged families. One should not watch how children and young people suffer from domestic violence and neglect in the face of an overload of the youth welfare offices and instead of creating the necessary remedy at this point, increase the funds for the ' Socialist Youth of Germany - Die Falken '.

Berlin pederasty scandal

White repeatedly campaigned for the victims of the Berlin pederasty scandal (" Kentler experiment"). In a first offense, Weiß criticized the Senate Administration as being phlegmatic about creating the practical and legal prerequisites for dealing with the matter. Files have not been made accessible or access is denied. In a second step, Weiss demanded “compensation for the victims of state-sponsored pederasty” as reparation. The victims would only benefit from statements about how terrible everything had been.

Islamic Youth Center Berlin

White demanded that the constitutional conformity of the Islamic Youth Center Berlin be put to the test. The four mosque associations , whose youth work is organized by the Islamic Youth Center Berlin, stand for radicalization and religious fanaticism . Financial structures, teaching content and organizational interconnections of the Islamic Youth Center would have to be fully disclosed.

Against extremism and violence

Dropout program for left-wing extremists

Weiß criticizes that in the red-red-green coalition agreement, which rightly emphasizes the fight against right-wing extremism, the term left-wing extremism does not appear once. In order to create a balance, White suggested setting up a state dropout program against left extremism. Left-wing radical structures should not be put into perspective, said Weiß, the governing coalition was blind to the left eye on the question of political extremism.

Daycare and school

School cooperation agreement with the Bundeswehr

With reference to the practice in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg , Weiß called for the Bundeswehr to be more involved in political education at Berlin schools and suggested that a cooperation agreement be concluded. Youth officers who do information and public relations work should not be confused with military service advisers who advertise service in the Bundeswehr, said Weiß.

School clothes

With reference to existing surveys and positive examples, Weiß advocated supporting Berlin schools with the introduction of school clothing . School clothes, argues the MP, would contribute to a better social climate in schools. The idea that uniform clothing has something to do with repression of the personality and authoritarian regimes is a false association.

Daycare brochure "Ene, Mene Muh"

White called for the distribution of the brochure "Ene mene muh - and you're out!" Published by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation to be prohibited in state day-care centers. The brochure guides educators to control the political views of parents. "Completely absurd clues" would be used as an opportunity to infer a supposedly right-wing extremist sentiment of the parents, for example when girls wear pigtails or boys are subjected to severe physical challenges.

Learning backlogs due to Corona

Weiß dedicated himself to the topic of school learning backlogs that arose in the wake of the corona pandemic. The measures to contain the corona pandemic would have led to a massive decline in learning performance and exacerbation of social inequality, with disastrous consequences for the educational biographies of students and for the economy. White demanded planning security for schools and a return to normal operations. A significantly reduced number of hours is an objectively insufficiently justified interference with the right to education, with all Corona measures the proportionality and the humanitarian costs would have to be weighed more carefully.

Political classification

In February 2018, Weiß wrote on Facebook : "In 2050 there should be no more recognizable German people: the government is planning the death of the people!" With the term "death of the people", white is making "open references" to right-wing extremist theories, judged the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the test report AfD.

In autumn 2016 White gave the DÖW as a right-wing extremist classified magazine First! an interview. Regarding the violent riots on the occasion of a rally by right-wing and right-wing extremist groups in Chemnitz in August 2018, Weiss wrote: "The people's anger breaks out." In the event of an election victory for the AfD, Weiss explained to the Süddeutsche Zeitung that one would be in the area of justice " have to clean up ”. Detlef Esslinger from the Süddeutsche Zeitung interpreted this statement as an attempt to abolish the separation of powers .
