Thrinle Gyatsho ( Tib .: 'phrin las rgya mtsho , Tibetan : འཕྲིན་ ལས་ རྒྱ་ མཚོ, January 26, 1857 , ' ol dga ' in Sangri County - April 25, 1875 ) was the twelfth Dalai Lama .

Life

Thrinle Gyatsho was recognized as the twelfth Dalai Lama two years after his birth. It was determined by drawing from the " Golden Urn ", but also corresponded to the wishes of the Tibetans.

The domestic politics of Lhasa was characterized by intrigues and power struggles during the time of the twelfth Dalai Lama. A campaign against Prince Gönpo Namgyel in Kham , eastern Tibet , resulted in a failed attempt to depose both the Dalai Lama and his regent. It was ultimately the decision of the imperial court in Beijing to transfer secular power to Thrinle Gyatsho at the age of 18, but apparently he was no longer able to exercise it, because official acts by him have not been passed down. Rumors from the last two years of his life describe him as sickly, now as mentally disturbed, and in some sources culminate in the fact that in the end he was poisoned. The circumstances around the end of his life in 1875 have remained mysterious to this day.
