Tim Ellrich

Tim Ellrich (* 1989 in Osnabrück ) is a German film director , screenwriter and producer . He is the founder and owner of the production company Coronado Film, with which he produced a large number of short films together with Leopold Pape . His films were shown at over 350 international film festivals and won over 70 prizes. For his film The Bathtub , he won the jury award at the most important short film festival in the world, the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand . The film was then broadcast on Arte and made it onto the longlist in the "Short Film" category of the 2019 Academy Awards . Tim Ellrich is currently in his graduation year for "scenic directing" at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy .

Life

Tim Ellrich grew up as the son of the sociologist Dieter Otten and Holle Ellrich, a naturopath for psychotherapy, in Osnabrück. At an early age he began working as a card snatcher in the local cinema, where he developed his deep fascination for cinema. After several internships in film productions in Germany, he moved to Vienna where he studied philosophy as well as theater, film and media studies at the University of Vienna and graduated with distinction. During this time he realized his first successful cinematic works in Vienna.

The cameraman Lukas Gnaiger as well as the actors Stefan Pohl , Rainer Wöss , Simon Jaritz , Werner Brix and Alexander E. Fennon belonged to the inner circle of his creative time in Vienna . The short film The Bathtub (film) was the end of his time in Vienna . The film was awarded the Prix du Jury at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand and was then shown at over 250 international festivals and won over 60 international awards win.

After successfully completing his studies in Vienna, he began studying stage directing at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy . His two first year films have already been shown at major festivals. The film Am Fenster celebrated its premiere at the renowned Max Ophüls Preis film festival, while Sara the Dancer premiered at the Hof International Film Festival and was also shown at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival and the Diagonale, festival of Austrian films . His second year film The Quiet Zone also premiered at the Hof International Film Festival.

In the third year, Tim Ellrich devoted himself to the genre of documentary film together with Hien Mai . This resulted in the film Mein Vietnam about a Vietnamese couple living in Germany. The feature film celebrated its world premiere at America's largest documentary film festival, the Hot Docs International Canadian Documentary Festival 2020 .

Tim Ellrich is currently developing their diploma film “Valley of the Kings” together with Leopold Pape , a scenic feature film that is due to be shot in 2021.

Tim Ellrich lives and works in Offenbach am Main .
