Tim Schrick (born January 20, 1976 in Wermelskirchen ) is a German racing driver , presenter and son of Peter Schrick, the founder of AVL Schrick (automotive supplier). His trademarks are a tendency to drive sideways (drifting) and the pictorial language when describing his impressions on the route.

Racing career

Tim Schrick drove the Nordschleife for the first time at the age of 13 and was part of the ADAC Junior Team at the age of 14. After appearing in various racing series, he founded Team Schrick in 2009 with the aim of building a car for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and starting there. This company was accompanied by a television crew and broadcast as a series on DMAX. ( Team Schrick - decision at the Nürburgring, Team Schrick Reloaded, Team Schrick 2010 - now all the more! )

In June 2010, shortly after the 24-hour race, Schrick got out of the Schrick team he had founded and thus dissolved it. As a reason he states that his goal has been achieved and the mission has ended. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage stayed with the new 3D Flowtec Racing team and will continue to be used in long-distance races after optimization.

Circuit

He was runner-up in the Citroën Saxo Cup in 1997 and won this championship in 1998. In 2001 he was the overall winner of the VW New Beetle Cup. From 1999 to 2002 he drove for two years in the Citroën Xsara and then in the Ford Focus ST 170 in the German Touring Car Challenge .

Endurance racing

Schrick started several times in the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring. In 2003, the Carlsson team with him, Frank Schmickler and Akira Iida in the Mercedes-Benz SLK dropped out prematurely due to a gearshift error that led to the engine over-rev and ultimately to valve damage. A year later he reached 44th place overall with a VW Golf GTI . In 2005 Schrick started in one of three Audi A3s owned by Jörg van Ommen's team . After an accident with a rollover in the Schwalbenschwanz section in the evening, he retired. In 2006 the Wiesmann R-GT was given up after technical problems . After finishing 25th in training, Jörg van Ommen's team with Schrick, Markus Lungstrass and Thomas Mutsch had problems with power transmission and a sudden loss of power in the race. In the following year he drove in the Nissan 350Z of the RJN Motorsport team with Kurt Thiim , Nicole Lüttecke and Holger Eckhardt in the 24-hour race. The team was still rated shortly before the end of the race after a failure due to an overheated engine and reached 29th place.

Two years later, in 2009, Tim Schrick started with his own team. An Aston Martin V8 Vantage was used as the vehicle, which was specially built for the race. Tim Schrick started as number 66 together with the drivers Jörg van Ommen, Jan-Erik Slooten and Ruben Zeltner . The car caught fire on the first lap, forcing the team to give up early. Another attempt at the VLN 24-hour race failed due to the defective gearbox. In 2010, the team made another attempt at the 24-hour race on the Nordschleife. Tim Schrick, Ralf Goral , Patrick Bernhard and Wolfgang Weber took turns at the wheel . After a problem with the clutch and two changes of the power steering pump, the team achieved an unrated 146th place overall after 75 laps.

In 2011 Schrick started in a VW Scirocco from Team Four Motors with the number 205. Smudo , Thomas von Löwis of Menar and Charlotte Wilking took turns at the wheel . After driving for four hours, the team had to give up due to a turbocharger defect and problems with the electronics. A year later he started with the same driver colleagues and vehicle at the Nürburgring with starting number 189. After a promising start to the race and the lead in the “Alternative Fuels” class, the team parked the race car in the early hours of the morning with a cracked valve cover after increased pressure had built up in the engine's crankcase. In order to be able to diagnose the fault, the team decided not to continue driving.

In 2014 Tim Schrick started in the VLN with an Opel Astra OPC Cup. Together with his driver colleague Hannu Luostarinen, Schrick won 5 races in a row in the strong CUP 1 class. This made the duo runner-up in the overall ranking of the VLN. At the 24h race on the Nürburgring Schrick won the CUP1 class with his driver colleagues Hannu Luostarinen, Volker Strycek and Peter Wyss. They finished 37th in the overall ranking.

In the 2015 24-hour race, Tim Schrick started in the Subaru / STI Japan factory team with a WRX STI NBR specially developed for the Nordschleife in the SP3T class. His teammates were Marcel Lasee, Carlo van Dam and Hideki Yamauchi. The team started the 24h race as the fastest in training in the SP3T class and drove a flawless race. The lead was continuously expanded and at the finish was a good twelve laps on the runner-up. In the overall standings, the WRX STI achieved an excellent 18th place.

At the 2016 24-hour race, Schrick and van Dam / Lasse / Yamauchi again started in the SP3T class with the Subaru WRX STI NBR and again achieved class victory. The 20th place was achieved in the overall ranking.

Tim Schrick has been using a Subaru BRZ with the nickname "Knatterheidi" in the VLN since 2016 ; the vehicle was built in accordance with the VLN SP3 regulations. He has shared the vehicle with Lucian Gavris since 2018, and together they won the SP3 class in 2019.
