Timur Nurmejew belonged to the world class in summer biathlon in the mid-2000s. As early as 2000 , he won the sprint, pursuit and relay titles at the junior competitions of the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk . In 2003 he first took part in the men's competitions in Forni Avoltri . In the sprint, Nurmejew reached fifth place, was tenth in the pursuit and in the mass start and finished second in the relay race with Oleg Rudenko , Konstantin Popow and Sergei Russinow . In Osrblie , too , he was able to win the title of runner-up world champion in the relay race alongside Alexei Mironov , Alexei Tscheparew and Sergei Balandin in 2004 . The Russian was also runner-up in the mass start race behind Pavol Hurajt . In the sprint he finished 22nd, in the pursuit race 18th. For the third time Nurmejew started 2005 in Muonio at a world championship. He finished 17th in the sprint, eleventh in the pursuit and sixth in the mass start race. In that year he had his greater successes at the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2005 in Bystřice pod Hostýnem . In the sprint he became European champion, in the mass start race he won the bronze medal behind Dmitri Nikiforow and Michal Šlesingr . With Anna Sotnikowa , Olga Pachomowa and Nikiforow, he also won his second title as the final runner in the mixed relay.
