Tipico is an internationally operating provider of sports betting and casino games based in Malta San Ġiljan . The company also has branches in Germany , Austria , Gibraltar , Croatia and Colombia . Over 1,800 employees work for the Tipico Group and more than 6,000 employees in the affiliated franchise network. CEO is the Austrian Joachim Baca.

Tipico Co. Ltd. was founded in 2004 by the Germans Oliver Voigt, Dieter Pawlik and Mladen Pavlovic together with the Karlsruhe lawyer Wolfgang Kuentzle as an international trading company and just like Tipico Casino Ltd. registered as such in the commercial register of the Maltese Financial Supervisory Authority . The group of companies employs over 1,800 people from 57 different countries. More than 6,000 employees work for the affiliated franchise network. In addition to its online business, Tipico operates over 1,250 sports betting outlets in Germany and Austria in the franchise system. This makes Tipico the market leader in Germany with a market share of over 50 percent and the sixth largest betting provider in the world. Tipico is one of seven companies that, according to the Interior Ministry of Schleswig-Holstein, was granted a license for sports betting when it was first awarded.

In March 2011, a lawsuit by Tipico resulted in the Cologne Regional Court forbidding the West German Lottery from accepting oddset bets from Hartz IV recipients. Tipico also achieved the same in Lower Saxony . The fact that it is possible to place bets in the numerous acceptance points in spite of the blocking on the Internet is seen as controversial.

Since 2016, Tipico has had a new majority owner with the financial company CVC Capital Partners , who acquired 60% of the company. In the course of the sale, a new CEO was appointed in the form of the Austrian Joachim Baca.

Sponsorship

In Germany, Tipico was among other things sponsor of the second division soccer club Hamburger SV . Since the 2014/15 season, Tipico has been sponsoring the Bundesliga in Austria . In addition, Tipico has been a platinum partner of FC Bayern Munich since the 2015/16 season .

Tipico has also been the official partner of the German Football League (DFL) since January 2018 . Up to and including the 2020/21 season, the bookmaker may use the symbols of the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga in its communication.

Brand ambassadors

Oliver Kahn has been a testimonial for Tipico since 2013 and promoted the company with the slogan Your bet is in safe hands . Since the start of the second half of the 2019/20 season, the betting provider has been advertising with the slogan Tipico - The Original .

Player protection

By its own account, Tipico sees security and player protection as part of the product promise. Customers are offered protective measures such as the limitation of monthly expenses or complete self-exclusion from the betting offer. The betting provider has a 24/7 customer service team, a consumer protection team and works with external partners from science and the auxiliary and advisory sector. These include the players' clinic at the TU Dresden , the chair for addiction research at the University of Lucerne , the gambling addiction support, the online advice center Gambling Therapy and the Glücksfall eV association. In addition, Tipico has a binding player protection concept and the player protection website www.risk-in-safe-hands.com.

Tipico says it supports the Early Warning System (EWS) of the World Football Association (FIFA) and informs associations and organizers as soon as the company registers suspicious betting movements. In addition, there is a collaboration with the integrity department of Sportradar , with Betgenius, with the International Olympics Committee and with the Tennis Integrity Unit of the International Tennis Federation .
