Todtenhausen was a village settlement in today's district of Elbenberg , a district of Naumburg in the northern Hessian district of Kassel, which was first mentioned in 1207 and fell in desolation at the latest in the first half of the 15th century .

Geographical location

The place was about 1.5 km west of Altendorf and 2 km southwest of Elbenberg at 305  m altitude in the Feldmark near Gut Waldhof, built around 1870 and operated as an organic farm and holiday home for about 30 years. Not far to the south, the Hahnebach runs east, towards the Eder tributary Elbe . The state road L 3214 from Fritzlar in the south to Naumburg in the north runs about 1.5 km east of the desert. The Hahnebachsweg leads from Elbenberg to the Waldhof and to the desert area.

history

The first documentary mention of the place took place on May 19, 1207, when Pope Innocent III. the Benedictine - monastery advertising took under his protection and his his estate, including three Mansi confirmed in Todtenhausen ( "Dodenhusen"). Later spellings of the place name were "Dothenhusen" (1231), "Dodenhusen" (1274), "Tudenhusen" (1365), "Thoidenhusen" and "Toidenhusen" (1440) and "Todenhuysen" (1470). The village belonged to the Elben court , but when it was bought by Kurmainz in 1266 , the " Elber Mark " and with it the "Mark zum Haine" with Todtenhausen were excluded from this change of ownership and remained in the Landgrave of Hesse .

It is not known when the place was left. From 1345 the possession of the Berich monastery of three men in Todtenhausen can be proven. But in a wisdom about the Elber Mark from 1440 "Thoidenhusen" or "Toidenhusen" is described as desolate.
