Thomas Franklin Louderback, Jr. (* 5 March 1933 in Petaluma , California ) is a former American American football - and Canadian football player . He played as a linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles , the Oakland Raiders and the Buffalo Bills , among others .

Player career

College career

Tom Louderback studied at the San Jose State University where he played for the San Jose State Spartans Football . In his college team , he was used in various positions. In 1955 he played as a college player under Head Coach Curly Lambeau in the college all-star game against the Cleveland Browns . The college players won the game 30:27.

Professional career

In 1955, Tom Louderback was by the Washington Redskins in the tenth round at the 111th spot drafted . At the beginning of the season he suffered a serious injury at the Redskins and was then fired from the team. Louderback then moved to Canada and ran in 1956 for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats , who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). After a year of play, he left the team and served two years in the United States Navy . Louderback returned to football in 1958 and joined the Philadelphia Eagles from the National Football League (NFL). Buck Shaw , the coach of the Eagles, used him mostly as a linebacker. With the intention of returning to California, he resigned after the 1959 season in Philadelphia and joined the Oakland Raiders, who were based in the newly formed American Football League (AFL). With the Raiders he acted as team captain . The team from Oakland wanted to reduce Louderback's salaries after the 1961 season, which Louderback did not agree to. He was then fired and received a contract offer from the Buffalo Bills. Due to a shoulder injury, he had to end his career with the Bills during the 1962 season.

After the career

Tom Louderback founded a beverage company in Richmond , California. The company now has around 200 employees.
