Tomave is a town in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Tomave is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Tomave in the province of Antonio Quijarro . The settlement is at an altitude of 3701  m on the Río Tumusla , one of the tributaries to the Río Pilcomayo .

Tomave is located on the Altiplano in central Bolivia on the northeastern edge of the Cordillera de Chichas .

The mean average temperature of the region is around 11 ° C (see Potosí climate diagram), the monthly average temperatures vary between 8 ° C in June / July and a good 13 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is only about 350 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation between 0 and 15 mm, and a short humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation of a good 70 mm.

Transport network

Tomave is located in a south-westerly direction 134 kilometers by road from Potosí , the capital of the department.

From Potosí, the Ruta 5 trunk road leads via the villages of Porco , Chaquilla and Yura to Ticatica and on via Pulacayo to Uyuni at the Salar de Uyuni salt lake . In Ticatica a dirt road branches off in a north-westerly direction from Ruta 5 and leads upstream after eleven kilometers to Tomave .
