Toni Amadeus Bechtold

Toni Amadeus Bechtold (born April 16, 1986 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , bass clarinet ) and music researcher.

Career

In his youth, Bechtold first learned the recorder , then later on the alto saxophone and piano . Together with his brother Florian Bechtold, he founded the first bands as a young teenager in which jazz , blues , soul and funk were played. Important steps in the direction of the music profession were the school big band of the Werkgymnasium Heidenheim , and later the state youth jazz orchestra under the direction of Bernd Konrad . After finishing school he studied jazz saxophone at the Nuremberg University of Music with Steffen Schorn , Hubert Winter and Klaus Graf (musicians) . Since then he has been playing in the Tobias Becker Big Band in Stuttgart.

After graduating in 2010, Bechtold moved to Lucerne for further studies , where he still lives and works today. At the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, he obtained two master's degrees through studies with Roland von Flüe , John Voirol , Nat Su and Nils Wogram . During this time he was also a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of u. a. Niels Klein and Jiggs Whigham . He is active in various Swiss small information at concerts and recordings, u. a. in the Samuel Leipold Quartet, the Maurus Twerenbold Non-Harmonic Quartet, the Roberto Bossard New Group and Druckmittel. He also occasionally gives concerts with the Zurich Jazz Orchestra , the Swiss Jazz Orchestra and played in the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra .

Bechtold has been a research assistant in the Competence Center for Music Performance Research at the Lucerne School of Music since 2013. There he researches and publishes in the disciplines of jazz history and music psychology ( rhythm and groove ).
